Seychelles (i/seɪˈʃɛlz/ say-SHELZ; French: [sɛʃɛl]), officially the Republic of Seychelles (French: République des Seychelles; Creole: Repiblik Sesel), is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The 115-island country, whose capital is Victoria, lies 1,500 kilometres (932 mi) east of mainland East Africa. Other nearby island countries and territories include Comoros, Mayotte, Madagascar, Réunion and Mauritius to the south.
Seychelles, with a population of 90,024, has the smallest population of any independent African state; however, it does have a larger population than the UK overseas territory Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
The Seychelles were uninhabited throughout most of recorded history. Some scholars assume that Austronesian seafarers and later Maldivian and Arab traders were the first to visit the uninhabited Seychelles. The earliest recorded sighting by Europeans took place in 1502 by the Portuguese Admiral Vasco da Gama, who passed through the Amirantes and named them after himself (islands of the Admiral). The earliest recorded landing was in January 1609, by the crew of the "Ascension" under Captain Sharpeigh during the fourth voyage of the British East India Company.

AJ’s Investigative Unit has uncovered corruption in the Maldives. Secretly filmed interviews describe how men on mopeds carried millions in cash to the Maldives’ political elite. President Abdulla Yameen and his former deputy, Ahmed Adeeb, are accused of receiving cash in bags filled with up to $1m, so much that it was “difficult to carry,” according to one of the men who delivered it. In a statement following its release, the Government of the Maldives said: “There is no evidence in this report connecting President Yameen or current members of his Government to any wrongdoing.” It noted that these claims already form part of a wider investigation initiated by President Yameen in February 2016: “We have asked Al Jazeera to provide any evidence they have which is relevant to this investi...

I was upgraded to the Business class. Seat Number: 2D Duration of flight: 2hrs15
Hey Guys! This review was long overdue. This is from my Seychelles vacation back in 2014(the outbound flights are on my channel). Emirates operated our in and outbound flights to the Seychelles, this review is about the first leg of my return flight to Zurich. Emirates Business Class onboard the A345 is a good business class for medium haul flights (3-5 hours). Its a very comfortable reclining seat, no full lie flat here. The breakfast was pretty good too, everything was fresh and well presented. The FA's did a great job making this flight as enjoyable as possible. Thank you for that! As usually if you have questions or feedback just write a comment and I'll try my best to reply to it! Thank you very much for watching! AJAY JAIN If it’s April, you must be in the Seychelles. For its annual carnival where the most colourful and talented from around the world come together. That’s where I was - shooting and shaking a leg with performers from Brazil, Germany, Mauritius, Reunion Island, South Africa, India, China, South Korea, UK and many other countries where celebration is a way of life. Life comes to a pause for two days in the idyllic islands of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean as locals and tourists alike line up the streets of capital Victoria in Mahe island to witness the parades. And to have a good time over food, drinks, shopping and giving themselves a creative makeover too. You can go to the Seychelles anytime, but there is something special that awaits in April. It may take an extra hop or two, but you get there. #2 Visa on Arrival - and it’s FREE Finally a country has the sense to offer visa on arrival, and not charge any fee. I still can’t figure why countries charge high amounts for visas - the money saved is likely to be spent in the country anyway and would encourage more travellers. #3 Currency The local currency is the Seychelles Rupee, and pegged at about 13 Rupees to a US dollar. The exchange rate is more or less no matter where you change money. However, US Dollars and Euros widely accepted everywhere. #4 Getting Around ...
