Vijay Mallya

Vijay Mallya (born 18 December 1955) is an Indian businessman and politician. The son of another businessman Vittal Mallya, he is the chairman of the UB Group, an Indian conglomerate with interests in beverage alcohol, aviation infrastructure, real estate and fertilizer among others. Mallya is also a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India.

He also co-owns the Formula One team Sahara Force India. His companies own Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore, the I-League teams Mohun Bagan A.C. and East Bengal F.C. He is also a member of the World Motor Sport Council representing India in the FIA.

Mallya is the Chairman of public companies both in India and the US. He has been the Chairman of Sanofi India (previously Hoechst AG and Aventis) as well as the Chairman of Bayer CropScience in India for over 20 years, in addition to being the Chairman of several other companies.

Personal life

Vijay Mallya is the son of Vittal Mallya, a prominent businessman from Bantwal, Mangalore, he hails from a konkani-speaking Gaud Saraswat Brahmins family. His wife is Lalitha Ramaiah. He was educated at La Martiniere Calcutta, where he was appointed House Captain of Hastings house in his final year, and at St. Xavier's College, Calcutta, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree (with honours) in 1970 . While in college, Mallya interned in his family's businesses. After graduating, he interned at the American part of Hoechst AG in the United States.

Scotland Yard

Scotland Yard (officially New Scotland Yard) is a metonym for the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Service, the territorial police force responsible for policing most of London.

The name derives from the location of the original Metropolitan Police headquarters at 4 Whitehall Place, which had a rear entrance on a street called Great Scotland Yard. The Scotland Yard entrance became the public entrance to the police station, and over time the street and the Metropolitan Police became synonymous. The New York Times wrote in 1964 that just as Wall Street gave its name to New York's financial district, Scotland Yard became the name for police activity in London.

The force moved away from Great Scotland Yard in 1890, and the name New Scotland Yard was adopted for subsequent headquarters. The current New Scotland Yard is located on Broadway (51°29′55″N 0°07′59″W / 51.49861°N 0.13305°W / 51.49861; -0.13305 (New Scotland Yard (current, third location))Coordinates: 51°29′55″N 0°07′59″W / 51.49861°N 0.13305°W / 51.49861; -0.13305 (New Scotland Yard (current, third location))) in Victoria and has been the Metropolitan Police's headquarters since 1967. In 2013, it was announced that the force will move back to the Curtis Green Building, the former site of Scotland Yard, which is located on the Victoria Embankment in 2015, and will be renamed Scotland Yard.

Hindi media refers to media in Hindi language and its dialects, across the Hindi belt in India, and elsewhere with Hindi-speaking Indian diaspora. First Hindi-language newspaper published in India, Udant Martand (The Rising Sun), started on 30 May 1826. This day is celebrated as the "Hindi Journalism Day", or Hindi Patrakarita Diwas as it marked the beginning to journalism in Hindi language. 'HISTORY India has a long history of printing. India's first printing press was set up as early as in 1674 in Mumbai (Bombay). Calcutta General Advertiser, the first newspaper of India (also known as the Hicky's Bengal Gazette) started in January 1780, and the first Hindi daily, Samachar Sudha Varshan, started in 1854 - three years before the first freedom struggle of India in 1857.

On 30 May 1826, Udant Martand (The Rising Sun), the first Hindi-language newspaper published in India, started from Calcutta (now Kolkata), published every Tuesday by Pt. Jugal Kishore Shukla. Hindi news media has its dominant presence in a large part of the country. Being a multi-lingual country, the Hindi-belt in India is considered to be a group of states which are predominantly Hindi-speaking. A common understanding of the Hindi belt includes states of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and the union territory of Chandigarh.
