David McAlister "Dave" Barry (born July 3, 1947) is a Pulitzer Prize winning American author and columnist, who wrote a nationally syndicated humor column for The Miami Herald from 1983 to 2005. He has also written numerous books of humor and parody, as well as comedic novels.
Barry was born in Armonk, New York, where his father, David, was a Presbyterian minister. He was educated at Wampus Elementary School, Harold C. Crittenden Junior High School (both in Armonk), and Pleasantville High School where he was elected "Class Clown" in 1965. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Haverford College in 1969.
As an alumnus of a Quaker-affiliated college, he avoided military service during the Vietnam War by registering as a religious conscientious objector. Notwithstanding his father's vocation, Dave decided "early on" that he was an atheist. He said, "The problem with writing about religion is that you run the risk of offending sincerely religious people, and then they come after you with machetes."

The Pulitzer Prize /ˈpʊlᵻtsər/ is an award for achievements in newspaper and online journalism, literature, and musical composition in the United States. It was established in 1917 by provisions in the will of American (Hungarian-born) publisher Joseph Pulitzer, and is administered by Columbia University in New York City. Prizes are awarded yearly in twenty-one categories. In twenty of the categories, each winner receives a certificate and a US$10,000 cash award. The winner in the public service category of the journalism competition is awarded a gold medal.
The Pulitzer Prize does not automatically consider all applicable works in the media, but only those that have specifically entered. (There is a $50 entry fee, paid for each desired entry category.) Entries must fit in at least one of the specific prize categories, and cannot simply gain entrance for being literary or musical. Works can also only be entered in a maximum of two categories, regardless of their properties.

New York Times-bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist Dave Barry should be a happy man. He has all the elements of a good life: a loving family, a nice home, a dog that doesn’t pee indoors without a good reason, a full head of hair and several original teeth. And if all that isn’t enough, he’s had a long and rewarding career that consists of being able to write pretty much any random thing he wants. For example: “You can put suspenders on a salamander, but it still won’t make waffles.” That sentence makes absolutely no sense, but he got paid to write it. Yet the harsh truth is that happiness is an elusive thing, and fortunately Dave tells how to capture it—or not—in LIVE RIGHT AND FIND HAPPINESS (ALTHOUGH BEER IS MUCH FASTER): Life Lessons and Other Ravings from Dave B...

Dave Barry visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss his book "I'll Mature When I'm Dead: Dave Barry's Amazing Tales of Adulthood." This event took place on May 10, 2010, as part of the Authors@Google series. Some people may wonder what this subject has to do with Dave Barry, since Dave's struggled hard against growing up his entire life-but the result is one of the funniest, warmest, most pitch-perfect books ever on that mystifying territory we call "adulthood". In hilarious, brand-new pieces, Dave tackles everything from fatherhood, new fatherhood ("Over the next five years, you will spend roughly 45 minutes, total, listening to songs you like, and roughly 127,000 hours to songs exploring topics such as how the horn on the bus goes* [*It goes: 'Beep! How can each religion be right and have conflicting beliefs? That, says Dave Barry, is why a sense of humor is crucial for religions to peacefully co-exist. Being able to laugh a little at our own behavior keeps us flexible, and religion really only becomes a danger when it's too rigid or is imposed on others. When a situation is tense in any area of life, humor is one of the most reliable ways to defuse it and find common ground again. The same goes for religion. Nepal is amazing. Come take a look, through my eyes. This edit only contains footage from my GoPro camera and were collected over the last two years whilst riding bikes in the Himalayan trails. I've had the pleasure of traveling to the most beautiful parts of my country and meeting awesome people along the way. I hope you enjoy it. Pilit kong binubura
Hanggang ngayo'y aaminin
Mahal pa rin kita
Di ko kaya ang limutin kita
Sinisigaw nitong damdamin
Mahal pa rin kita
Dahil 'di ko kaya ang limutin ka
Hanggang ngayo'y aaminin
Mahal pa rin kita
Di ko kaya ang limutin kita
Sinisigaw nitong damdamin
Mahal pa rin kita
