New York—often called New York City or the City of New York to distinguish it from the State of New York, of which it is a part—is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York metropolitan area, the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States and one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. A global power city, New York exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world.
Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of New York State. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 8,491,079 distributed over a land area of just 305 square miles (790 km2), New York is the most densely populated major city in the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. By 2014 census estimates, the New York City metropolitan region remains by a significant margin the most populous in the United States, as defined by both the Metropolitan Statistical Area (20.1 million residents) and the Combined Statistical Area (23.6 million residents). In 2013, the MSA produced a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of nearly US$1.39 trillion, while in 2012, the CSA generated a GMP of over US$1.55 trillion, both ranking first nationally by a wide margin and behind the GDP of only twelve and eleven countries, respectively.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.

This is the third episode of our independent „A Taste of ...“ time lapse series. In September 2016 we visited this awesome city to try out some new time lapse stuff. It took us 10 days, a lot of burgers and one helicopter ride to produce this video. 10 days is very little time to discover this city of endless opportunities, so we hardly slept anything and shot day and night for this time lapse film. The city that never sleeps indeed! The Taxishot: Over the 10 days we took photos of yellow cabs whenever we had time to from as many different angles as possible. So we gathered 2000 (!) photos in total we had to sort afterwards and compile to a hyperlapse around a cab in post production. It took us 5 whole days in post production to get this one shot. Technical Details: In 10 days we shot 65...

A few months ago I was invited to make a video of New York City. We spent amazing time exploring the city, walking through those crowdy streets and parks, making thousands of pictures, trying to catch the energy of the city that never sleeps, just to pass it along to you later in a video project that we decided to call simply: #NYC. So sit back, turn your speakers on and enjoy this journey with us. Just fasten your seat belts first... This year I visited New York for the first time. Throughout my time there I was walking all around the city with my camera. I was looking for a way to portray all the different types of scenery and people that I saw as well as keep the constant energy of the city. I decided to take still photographs and compile them in a video as if they were one flowing motion. All background ambient sounds were recorded on location. A little more about the process can be found here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/24304727/Still-NYC And in this short interview here: http://www.diyphotography.net/still-nyc-is-a-fun-experiment-in-flowing-motion
Seeing lower Manhattan without power was a surreal experience. This is traditionally a city that never sleeps. One in which the lights are always on. One that is always bustling with people. When the lights went out it was wholly different. This piece is meant to capture and relay the feeling of what it was like to walk around the darkened streets of lower Manhattan. Vacation travel video about destination New York City in New York. New York continues to be one of the world’s most famous cities, a true world metropolis and major symbol of the American Dream. Manhattan Island is the city’s most well known district and the Rockefeller Center in Midtown is often referred to as the heart of the New York. Nearby the Roman Catholic Saint Patrick´s Cathedral is the largest and most magnificent church in the United States. The Grand Central Terminal divides Park Avenue and is a huge station with which the railroad kings, the Venderbilts, left an indelible mark. The huge hall, with its magnificent vaulted ceiling in Beaux Arts style, has been the city’s central railway station for twelve lines since 1913. The confines of Chinatown are inhabited by a hundred a...

In the city of dreams
You get caught up in the schemes
And fall apart in the seam tonight
That boy he is the bomb, from B.K. to the Bronx
And it's the fortunate one who dies
(New York, you ready?)
He move from LAS to Soho
A few blocks for those who don't know
Down the hall punched a hole in the wall
Bounced out, all are in control
Certified son of a gun, learns life lesson 101
Don't fly too high on your own supply
Get burnt by the sun
'Cause in the city of dreams
You get caught up in the schemes
And fall apart in the seam tonight
That boy he is the bomb, from B.K. to the Bronx
And it's the fortunate one who dies
He was NY's talk of the town
Heard out to the LI sound
He started datin' models and he figured it out
He used to be a nice guy, then he cut that shit out
Qualified sex machine
No better than a vowed fiend
She wanted a ride to the upper east side
But he dropped her ass off in Queens
'Cause in the city of dreams
You get caught up in the schemes
And fall apart in the seam tonight
That boy would play his guitar
Like he was ready for war
You ready, K?
(And then he'd lift up his voice to the sky)
It's your man Nas here
Take it straight through New York city
Yo, okay, my city, my town, my crown
Michael Bloomberg, forget what you heard
I'm thought of highly, shoppin' Louie, Gianni
Christian LaCrosse shades, what can a boss say?
City, bus, the subway, cab, the runway
Ski masks and gunplay my past at a young age
The illest city on the planet
Towers came down, Wall Street barely standin'
We Crook Brothers, opposite of Brook Brothers
My footsteps of Scatman Crothers
It's just generations of style to get
Five luminous minutes with me
Interviews on how I flip sixty twos
This isn't my style, I spit what I'm livin' right now
I'm out on the town, gold bars shuttin' it down
Bottles stacked from the floor to the ceilin'
Then it's a loud fool, fifty third street, right near the Hilton
I'm fightin' the feelin' I had when I was lightin' up buildings
Now I'm writin' for millions of listeners
Critics who just don't get it
They try dissin' us, New York full of kings and queens
All the rest just mimic us
'Cause in the city of dreams
You get caught up in the schemes
And fall apart in the seam tonight
That boy would play his guitar
Like he was ready for war
