Mary Moses aims It's A Shamozzle at the Scone Cup

Scone trainer Mary Moses has always had success at her home town's biggest meeting with home-bred It's A Shamozzle – now she wants to win the major prize, the Scone Cup.

It's A Shamozzle won his maiden on debut during the cup carnival and a further seven races in a 24-start career, which has his rating at a level where he should get a start in next month's Scone Cup.

"That is the race we really want to run him in, but it comes down to whether his rating will get him a run," Moses said. "I think everyone wants to win their home-town cup.

"He won his maiden there and was second in a Country Cup during the carnival and the Scone Cup would be great place for him to have his next start at it."

The Scone Cup will be run on May 12 and Moses has decided to keep It's A Shamozzle in the bush until then, mainly because he prefers being close to home.

"When you put him on a float he runs his race before he gets to the races. He is getting better with a bit of age and last prep he was able to win at Canterbury," Moses said. "But we are going to keep him to short trips [on the float] this time to start with."

It's A Shamozzle won his return at Scone last month and will run in Monday's Tamworth Cup Prelude with 62.5 kilograms and Moses plans to use the Tamworth Cup as a final lead-up for Scone.

"It is a $100,000 race, so it is not going to be easy, but he is still improving and won't have to carry as bigger weight in it," Moses said. "It looks like he will have to do a lot of his racing in Sydney after the Scone Cup because he is right up in the ratings."

Meanwhile, the nominations for the Wagga Cup carnival close on Friday. The carnival has made a habit of being the starting point for some classy gallopers, including Takeover Target.
