Warlpiri Art Market Day


To celebrate the launch of the Warlpiri Drawings exhibition at the National Museum of Australia in August, AIATSIS is proud to present a rare opportunity to buy original Aboriginal artworks and support remote communities from the Northern Territory, Thursday 14 and Friday 15 August.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day


How will you be celebrating National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, Monday 4 August? AIATSIS is proud to partner with the Ngaiyuriija Ngunawal Language Group in an attempt to bring the Ngunawal language to Canberra schools.

Newest acquisition a first


After a brief email in May enquiring about AIATSIS’ interest in a tiny tin picture for the audiovisual archives, things went quiet. When a curious package arrived from the United Kingdom earlier this month, staff found sealed in a coin bag and wrapped in tissue paper a very curious item.

2015 Stanner Award opens


The biennial Stanner Award is open to all aspiring Indigenous authors of academic works, with the author of the winning submission receiving $5000 in prize money, an inscribed glass eel trap sculpture, and mentoring and editorial support to turn their manuscript into a publication.

Lone Protestor wins Medal


Written by Historian Dr Fiona Paisley and published by ASP, The Lone Protestor was announced as winner of the 2014 Magarey Medal for Biography. The Lone Protestor documents the travels of Anthony Martin Fernando, celebrated as the first Indigenous activist to campaign overseas.
