Our Chairperson, Professor Mick Dodson, delivered a powerful address to the National Press Club on 12 November.
Professor Dodson said the Institute’s collections are in jeopardy and announced the launch of a foundation in early 2015.
“As a nation we must now gather and cherish these materials, before it is too late. So where to from here?”

Country in Colour Market Day |
In association with Big hART Inc and Ngurratjuta Many Hands Arts Centre, we are proud to present an Exhibition and Market Day of Hermannsburg School Watercolour Artists.
Descendants of Albert Namatjira have followed in his watercolour tradition and are now sought after exhibiting watercolour artists.
The market day for members of the public to buy art and meet the artists will be held on Friday, 28 November 2014.

New book sheds light on a silent killer |
A ground breaking study of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men’s sexual and reproductive health findings has been completed by AIATSIS Research Fellow in Health and Wellbeing, Dr Michael Adams.
Dr Adams has written a new book that encapsulates the findings and methodology of his PHD research called Men’s Business: A Study into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Men’s Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Heritage and Native Title |
The NTRU has prepared a comprehensive bibliography on current state and Commonwealth Indigenous cultural heritage management regimes and their interaction with native title.
This bibliography aims to provide readers with a list of relevant legislation research and commentary on Indigenous cultural heritage management in Australia since the implementation of the Native Title Act 1993.

Creating safer communities |
AIATSIS has won an important role in ANROWS’ national report that aims to tackle domestic violence in Australia. The research will compile the evidence on programs that aim to tackle domestic violence in Australia.
AIATSIS member and Research Fellow, Dr Ray Lovett, will lead a small team tasked with conducting a literature review to consolidate existing knowledge, practice and responses to violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

Singing the Train launch |
Singing the Train has been launched! It’s a new ongoing exhibition at the Revolutions Transport Museum in WA. Through Nyamal song, it tells the story of the first railway that ran between Port Hedland and Marble Bar, from 1911 to 1951.
Singing The Train is a collaborative project between AIATSIS, Wangka Maya Pilbara Aboriginal Language Centre and the Revolutions Transport Museum in WA. AIATSIS members, Maryanne Jebb and Doug Marmion, researched the multi-media exhibition.

Encounters with Indigeneity |
In the latest release from Aboriginal Studies Press internationally renowned Australian scholar, Professor Jeremy Beckett, draws together his best writing from the 1970s to the present, using life stories to vividly open up academic ideas to the wider public.
As anthropology has become more historical, and history more anthropological, Beckett deftly demonstrates how these two traditions of study can and should come together.
