On Saturday 8 April, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Orchestra and Choir will perform works by Maurice Ravel, Gabriel Fauré, Camille Saint-Saëns.
The concert will open with Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, followed by Fauré's Élégie (Elegy) for Cello and Orchestra and Saint-Saëns' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A minor, for Violin and Orchestra.
The soloists will be cellist Ahmed Fouad and young violinist Salma Sorour.
In the second half of the evening, the orchestra and the choir will perform Gabriel Fauré's Requiem in D minor, Op. 48
An exquisite work, innovative and fresh, the Requiem is Fauré’s best-known large work, frequently performed across the concert halls until date.
“Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest,” Fauré is known to have said about his work.
The Requiem was performed at the composer’s funeral in 1924.
Soloists of Fauré's Requiem in Alexandria are soprano Dina Iskander and baritone Fady Jeanbart.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Orchestra and Choir will be conducted by Hisham Gabr. The choir master is Rodica Ocheseanu
