WA drivers pinged with double demerits but camel escapes sanction

With signs up everywhere and advertising reminders ringing non-stop, you can't say they didn't warn you...

WA police are out in force this Easter with double demerits earned for offences like speeding and drink driving - but like always, there's a rogue's gallery of people who just don't get the message.

Here's a quick sampling:

Kojonup and Cranbrook Police in the Great Southern issued 10 traffic tickets on Thursday, the first day of double demerits, while Wagin cops caught a P-plater doing 138kmh in a 110kmh zone with a car full of kids.

Police in Merredin caught a driver doing 140kmh in a 110kmh zone, costing them six demerit points and a $400 fine.

A 26-year-old man was caught driving his ute at 118kmh in a 60kmh zone in Mundaring.

While a man in Peel had his car impounded after being caught taking his four-year-child for "some gravel road hooning" on Good Friday.

But it's not all bad news on the roads.

Officers up in the remote town of Balgo near the Great Sandy and Tanami deserts had a run in with a camel named Sadie - and while there's little chance she'll break the speed limit, it just shows you never know what could happen on the roads.
