The Pacific Motorway in Upper Mount Gravatt was blocked southbound due to a traffic crash on Sunday afternoon that occurred after police were called to assist a driver in a broken-down car.
The second responding police car was hit from behind by another vehicle and as a result two police officers were injured and taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, one suffering a severe cut to the head and the other with minor injuries.
Police said the two officers were among five taken to hospital from the crash, which occurred about 12.20pm. One of the three injured in the second car was in a serious condition and the other two had minor injuries.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said a man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital, while another man and woman were taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Australian Traffic Network spokeswoman Amelia Oberhardt said the Pacific Motorway had been turned into "a car park", with delays back about five kilometres to Holland Park West at their peak.
Police diverted traffic off the motorway at the Marshall Rd exit, with motorists able to rejoin via the Logan Road on-ramp, which eased delays throughout the afternoon.
The motorway had been reduced to one southbound lane for more than three hours before the accident was cleared by 3.45pm.
Frustrated motorists initially made illegal u-turns, however police warnings against the dangerous manoeuvre soon put a stop to it.
