Pair charged after allegedly using lighter and aerosol can to torture Brisbane man
By Toby Crockford
A 64-year-old man has been allegedly beaten and burnt with a lighter and aerosol can during two hours of torture at a Highgate Hill unit on Saturday night.
Police said the victim was drinking with two men at the Gladstone Road address when the trio began arguing about 7.45pm.
It will be alleged the two men then started to torture the victim until he managed to escape and raise the alarm. He was taken to hospital with burns to his legs, arms, scalp and face.
A 42-year-old Collingwood Park man and 44-year-old Highgate Hill man were each charged with a string of offences including torture, assault and deprivation of liberty. They were expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, an 86-year-old man was a prisoner in his own home in West Rockhampton, after two men and a woman broke in and held him at knifepoint while damaging the home and stealing.
The trio forced their way into the Boreham Street house on Friday night about 11.30pm before cutting the phone line, damaging the man's mobile and drinking his alcohol.
A carer called police after finding the man on Saturday morning, but the victim was uninjured and police released descriptions of his attackers. The first man was described as Aboriginal, about 175 centimetres tall, short curly hair, a stubbly beard and was last seen wearing dark shorts and t-shirt. The second man was Aboriginal, about 180 centimetres tall and had a towel covering his face. The woman was also Aboriginal, possibly pregnant and also had a towel over her face.
Anyone who may have information that may assist the investigation was urged to contact police and investigations were continuing.
