COMEDY FESTIVAL
RAMA NICHOLAS: THE LUCKY ONES
 ★★★★
Malthouse Theatre
Until April 23

Carmen is a lovely old biddy who writes delightfully saucy and hilariously sexy romantic fiction. These unforgettably original stories are written and performed by Melbourne's Rama Nicholas.

As narrator, Carmen tells a ye-olde-time romance of seamen on the seas and a merman in the depths (of his lover), and a futuristic science-fiction love story where everyone's poly-transsexual – into boys, girls and genderless aliens.

The jokes and euphemisms – from tiny jellyfish to wet worm holes – are countless, and her complex characters (she plays all of them) and remarkable worlds are so vivid that I know I saw a tangerine-coloured alien with cat eyes in a space fight.

Love sure "never sticks to the f------ rules", but there are The Lucky Ones who will hear someone say, "How extraordinary you are in my eyes" – or share an off-planet orgasm that lasts for days.
