HARRIS FEDERATION

The Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance is the professional development centre for the Harris Federation. 

We provide high-quality training that is facilitated by experienced school leaders, who have exemplary records in leading successful school improvement, and improving outcomes for their students. Our highly practical training and support programmes are available to all schools and academies, not just to Harris Federation staff. 

We also offer Initial Teacher Education programmes for graduates and career changers interested in joining the teaching profession through our year-long School Direct teacher training courses.

The Teaching School remit covers six areas:

•    Initial Teacher Education (ITE through School Direct)
•    Succession Planning and Talent Management
•    Learning and Development
•    School-to-School Support
•    Specialist Leaders of Education
•    Research and Development

Two of our academies have been awarded Teaching School status by the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

Harris City Academy Crystal Palace was one of the first 100 Teaching Schools designated nationally in summer 2011 and was selected to offer Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) training. Harris City Academy Crystal Palace is the most popular non-selective, non-faith school in the country because of the Academy’s third consecutive ‘outstanding’ (Ofsted 2014) track record. The Academy has a diverse intake with students coming from a range of London boroughs.

Harris Academy Chafford Hundred also became a designated Teaching School in spring 2013, partnering with Harris City Academy Crystal Palace to form the Alliance. Harris Academy Chafford Hundred has an ‘outstanding’ track record and is well known for delivering high-quality training including the Outstanding Teacher Programme and the Improving Teacher Programme. The Academy also offers a range of professional development courses and improvement packages for other schools and school leaders. It has won a number of awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and is an SSAT consultant school.

Both Teaching Schools work collaboratively with the rest of the Federation Academies to deliver the Teaching School offer, making up the Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance. We are keen to work with more schools to share tried and tested practices, designate Specialist Leaders of Education and offer high-quality training opportunities to teachers.
