In the visual arts and music, minimalism is a style that uses pared-down design elements.
Minimalism in the arts began in post–World War II Western Art, most strongly with American visual arts in the 1960s and early 1970s. Prominent artists associated with minimalism include Donald Judd, John McCracken, Agnes Martin, Dan Flavin, Robert Morris, Anne Truitt, and Frank Stella. It derives from the reductive aspects of Modernism and is often interpreted as a reaction against Abstract expressionism and a bridge to Postminimal art practices.
Minimalism in music features repetition and iteration such as those of the compositions of La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and John Adams. Minimalist compositions are sometimes known as systems music. The term "minimalist" often colloquially refers to anything that is spare or stripped to its essentials. It has also been used to describe the plays and novels of Samuel Beckett, the films of Robert Bresson, the stories of Raymond Carver, and the automobile designs of Colin Chapman. The word was first used in English in the early 20th century to describe "a 1913 composition by the Russian painter Kasimir Malevich of a black square on a white ground".
Music Inc. is an album by American jazz trumpeter Charles Tolliver's Music Inc. with a Big Band recorded in 1970 and first released on the Strata-East label.
The Allmusic review by Jason Ankeny awarded the album 4½ stars stating "The remarkable Music, Inc. Big Band remains the apotheosis of trumpeter Charles Tolliver's singular creative vision. Rarely if ever has a big band exhibited so much freedom or finesse, while at the same time never overwhelming the virtuoso soloists on whom the performances pivots".
All compositions by Charles Tolliver except as indicated

The Minimalists are Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, former corporate executives, now authors and speakers, who began pursuing the minimalist lifestyle in 2010. After experiencing significant improvements in their quality of life as a result of adopting and practicing the tenets of minimalism, the pair launched their website in December 2010 to help others by sharing their experiences. In late 2012, in the spirit of Henry David Thoreau, the pair moved to a cabin in Philipsburg, Montana, so they could focus on their writing. After four months in Philipsburg, they moved to Missoula, Montana, where they still live and work today.
Millburn and Nicodemus created their website in the hopes they could help others through writing and posting essays discussing their personal journeys adopting and practicing the tenets of minimalism. Topics on the website include simple living, health, relationships, and personal growth. The site now has an annual audience of more than four million readers, and it has been featured in the Wall Street Journal,TIME, The Guardian, NBC, FOX, NPR, CBC, CBS This Morning, and Good Morning America. In keeping with the tenets of minimalism, the website displays their essays in a simple layout and has no ads.
