Saint George
Saint George (Greek: Γεώργιος Georgios; Latin: Georgius; AD 275–281 to 23 April 303), according to legend, was a soldier in the Roman army who later became venerated as a Christian martyr. His parents were Christians of Greek background; his father Gerontius was a Roman army official from Cappadocia and his mother Polychronia was a Christian from Lydda in the Roman province of Syria Palaestina (Palestine). Accounts differ regarding whether George was born in Cappadocia or Syria Palaestina, but agree that he was raised at least partly in Lydda. Saint George became an officer in the Roman army in the Guard of Diocletian, who ordered his death for failing to recant his Christian faith.
In hagiography, Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic Church (Latin and Eastern), Anglican, East Syrian, and Miaphysite Churches. He is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints, immortalized in the myth of Saint George and the Dragon killing in Beirut, Lebanon. His memorial, Saint George's Day, is traditionally celebrated on the Julian date of 23 April (currently the 6th of May according to the Gregorian Calendar). Many countries, cities, professions and organisations claim Saint George as their patron.

St Andrews (Latin: S. Andrea(s);Scots: Saunt Aundraes;Scottish Gaelic: Cill Rìmhinn) is a former royal burgh on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Dundee and 30 miles (50 km) northeast of Edinburgh. The town is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland. The University is an integral part of the burgh, and during term time students make up approximately one third of the town's population. St Andrews has a population of 16,680, making it the fifth largest settlement in Fife.
The town is named after Saint Andrew the Apostle. There has been an important church in St Andrews since at least the 8th century, and a bishopric since at least the 11th century. The settlement grew to the west of St Andrews cathedral with the southern side of the Scores to the north and the Kinness burn to the south. The burgh soon became the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland, a position which was held until the Scottish Reformation. The famous cathedral, the largest in Scotland, now lies in ruins.

This video details the story of President Lorenzo Snow when he traveled to St. George, Utah from Salt Lake City and ended up reminding the saints about the Law of Tithing. There was a drought at the time. President Snow promised the saints that the drought would end if they paid their tithing.

He feels prompted to travel to St. George, which is experiencing a tremendous drought, and while preaching in the Tabernacle there he receives a revelation to re-emphasize the law of tithing as the solution to the Church's financial troubles. Furthermore he promises rain in St. George if they will faithfully pay tithing. A reformation is begun throughout the settlements, and eventually St. George receives rain and the Church climbs out of debt. Because of an excessive building program and other causes, in the late 1950s the Church was once again in a financial crisis. Until November 2014, Canon Andrew White pastored one of the largest churches in Iraq – St George’s Church in Baghdad – a position which afforded him the moniker ‘The Vicar of Baghdad’. In 1899 an aging President Lorenzo Snow is deeply troubled by the Church's crippling debt, left over from the anti-polygamy crusades of the 1880s. He feels prom...
In 1899 an aging President Lorenzo Snow is deeply troubled by the Church's crippling debt, left over from the anti-polygamy crusades of the 1880s. He feels prompted to travel to St. George, which is experiencing a tremendous drought, and while preaching in the Tabernacle there he receives a revelation to re-emphasize the law of tithing as the solution to the Church's financial troubles. Furthermore he promises rain in St. George if they will faithfully pay tithing. A reformation is begun throughout the settlements, and eventually St. George receives rain and the Church climbs out of debt.
Because of an excessive building program and other causes, in the late 1950s the Church was once again in a financial crisis. The Presiding Bishopric hence commissioned this film of the BYU Motion Picture Studio to help in a reformation similar to that in 1899; the brief was for a film on tithing, and Scott Whitaker struck upon this particular story.
Both the scope of production and publicity for the film were the greatest of any BYU film up to this point. The thirty minute commission grew into a fifty minute production--their longest yet--and hundreds of Church members were involved, including Harold B. Lee, who scouted for period locomotives. The members in St. George, including some who had been present in the actual meeting with President Snow, were particularly stalwart in creating this film, which they saw as their story. President David O. McKay, who had also known President Snow, was greatly moved, and after a St. George premiere it was distributed throughout the wards and missions and became BYU's most popular film; it effected a similar retrenchment in tithing, and the financial crisis was solved.
Scott Whitaker's script was based primarily on the writings of Lorenzo Snow's son LeRoi. In a famous article, E. Jay Bell discusses several of the differences between the historical and the filmic events, foremost among them the facts that President Snow never mentioned anything about rainfall in connection with tithing, that the drought did not actually end until years after Lorenzo Snow had died, and that President's Snow's health was not mentioned as poor by contemporary accounts.

Mount St. Helens or Louwala-Clough (called Lawetlat'la to the indigenous Cowlitz individuals, as well as Loowit to the Klickitat) is an energetic stratovolcano situated in Skamania County, Washington, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is 96 miles (154 kilometres) south of Seattle, Washington, as well as 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Portland, Oregon. Mount St. Helens takes its English name from the British mediator Lord St Helens, a close friend of traveler George Vancouver that made a study of the area in the late 18th century. [1] The volcano is located in the Waterfall Variety as well as is part of the Waterfall Volcanic Arc, a segment of the Pacific Ring of Fire that consists of over 160 active volcanoes. This volcano is well known for its ash explosions and pyroclastic flows.
Mount St. Helens is most well-known for its tragic eruption on May 18, 1980, at 8:32 a.m. PDT, [2] the most dangerous and also most financially damaging volcanic occasion in the history of the United States. Fifty-seven individuals were eliminated; 250 residences, 47 links, 15 miles (24 km) of trains, and 185 miles (298 km) of freeway were ruined. A huge debris barrage set off by an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale triggered an eruption [3] that decreased the elevation of the mountain's top from 9,677 feet (2,950 m) to 8,363 ft (2,549 m), replacing it with a 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) vast horseshoe-shaped crater. [4] The debris barrage was up to 0.7 cubic miles (2.9 km3) in volume. The Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was produced to preserve the volcano and also allow for its consequences to be scientifically examined.
As with a lot of various other volcanoes in the Cascade Variety, Mount St. Helens is a huge eruptive cone consisting of lava rock interlayered with ash, pumice, as well as other down payments. The hill consists of layers of lava as well as andesite whereby numerous domes of dacite lava have emerged. The biggest of the dacite domes developed the previous top, and off its northern flank sat the smaller Goat Rocks dome. Both were damaged in the 1980 eruption.

Sadly, recent events in Iraq have made it very difficult for him to travel there. However, he remains Emeritus Vicar of St. George’s and his thoughts and prayers are always with the congregation.
Since 2005, Canon White has worked full time as President of the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East (FRRME), which he set up to provide spiritual and material relief to refugees displaced by violent upheaval. In his role as President of FRRME, Canon White also works with key religious leaders towards bringing peace and reconciliation to the Middle East.
