'Food police' attack Kelly Clarkson over daughter's sweet treat

The internet is baying for Kelly Clarkson's blood in the latest innocent Instagram video to be blown up way out of context.

Kelly shared her daughter River Rose enjoying a piece of chocolate-nutty toast goodness. "River's first Nutella experience," she wrote. "It should have been via crepe but toast was easier."

River takes a big bite and does a little happy dance in her chair, because who wouldn't?

Everyone thought the whole thing was adorable and then just moved on with their days.

Just kidding.

What actually happened was the unleashing of a bunch of mums who have nothing better to do than tell other mums they're mumming wrong.

"There's a lot of sugar in that," observed one. No kidding. Let's all assume this mum has never given her kids a treat.

"Yep. Start them out with cancer at an early age," quipped another, who has clearly been sucked in by a common story doing the rounds – one that's been shown to be entirely false. How embarrassing to be getting all Judge Judy with only fake news on your side.

"Make your own @kellyclarkson Nutella is PACKED with sugars don't make your kids blow up too," wrote a commenter who clearly crossed so many lines I don't even know where to start. It takes a lot of talent to body shame someone and imply they're an irresponsible mother all in one badly punctuated sentence.

Luckily, Kelly had her defenders as well. One fan wrote, "So many weirdos on Instagram, hiding behind the mask that is social media … get a life people. (FYI two-year-olds are entitled to treats like the rest of us. Argh!) Rant over."

Through all this Kelly has remained silent and classy. And I'm sure a few obnoxious comments on Instagram won't bother her too much.

She's dealt with her fair share of body shamers and people who want to tell her how to live her life – and she always comes out smiling.
