Zorko's City2South challenge

Brisbane Lions midfielder and City2South ambassador Dayne Zorko gives some tips on how to finish a a fun run.

"I got involved with it simply because I don't really get the opportunity, especially throughout the season to get out with my family and enjoy activity outside, so this is a great opportunity for us to head out as a family," he said.

During the Lions' training season the players could cover 25-30km a week, but Mr Zorko said the City2South accommodated every resident who wanted to give it a go.

Entries are open for two courses - 5km and 14km - through Brisbane.

"Enjoy it – that's the main thing, have a lot of fun," Mr Zorko said.

"There are going to be a lot of activities, there is going to be food trucks and F45 (boot camps) down there.

"So it's going to be a great Brisbane event and I just hope a lot of people can turn out and give it their all, if you're running or walking, just enjoy the day."

Even though fitness is key all year round for the Brisbane Lions Mr Zorko said anybody can take steps to improve their fitness before the event.

"First of all, I think it's just important to get active, whether it's just going for a walk in the morning or an afternoon once you've finished work," he said.

"I think it's important that you just get up and do it. Then obviously you can increase that to a jog or you can do it in increments – you can go fast for a certain amount of kilometres, or you can go slow.

"There are so many different varieties when you're talking about walking and running.

"Just do your own pace, just get yourself through it and I'm sure at the end of it you'll enjoy it."

The 2016 event raised more than $100,000 and had more than 5000 participants.
