Luke Hodge's son reminds his dad that Hawthorn are bottom of the ladder

Hawthorn have come in for heavy criticism due to their winless start to the season and it seems as though they can't even turn to family for support during this tough time.

Former captain Luke Hodge has tweeted that he was on the receiving end of a malicious jibe from his own son, Cooper, following the Hawks' spectacular loss to Gold Coast on the weekend.

"U have to love how honest kids r," Hodge tweeted.

"I took coop to lunch and he was laughing & said 'do u know that you guys are on the bottom of the ladder'."

For the first time since 2005, the Hawks find themselves 0-3 and, with games against Geelong and West Coast to come, are in serious danger of missing out on the finals after seven consecutive September appearances.

After four premierships, five grand finals and six preliminary finals, Hawthorn's golden era appears to be over.

The footy world was stunned on Sunday evening as the Hawks suffered an 86-point shellacking at the hands of lowly Gold Coast who had lost their previous game against GWS by 102 points.

It was the Suns' biggest ever win and just their 11th victory since coach Rodney Eade took over at the end of 2014.

Hawthorn, who bowed out of the 2016 finals series in straight sets, haven't lost six games in a row since 2010 and will be aiming to avoid that when they face the Cats on Easter Monday.
