American department store Sears sparked controversy with a toddler's t-shirt line that used the slogans "Hung like Daddy", "Don't make me kick you in the Fallopian Tubes", "Don't make me kick you in the birth canal", and "Nice girls don't use pepper spray". When a reporter made a complaint, the shirts were taken off sale. -
After public outcry, Old Navy has removed these toddler T-shirts, seemingly discouraging children from being artists, from its shelves. One Facebook post, shared more than 7000 times, read, "As a mother and a career artist, I'm astounded that a company as large and influential as you are could approve of a design that encourages toddlers to stifle their creativity. TODDLERS. I'm horrified at the thought of putting a shirt like this on my own 20 month old daughter." In response, Old Navy said: "We would never intentionally offend anyone, and we are sorry if that has been the case ... we have decided to discontinue the design." -
On average, girls don't start puberty until 10-11 years, but that didn't stop Abercrombie Kids from promoting their "push up triangle" bikini tops for girls as young as seven. When there was a public outcry, the company removed the words "push up" from the name, leaving just "triangle." They later stopped selling the item altogether. -
New York University Bookstore has come under fire for selling a onesie bearing the slogan "I hate my thighs" for baby girls. The outfit was created by baby apparel range Wry Baby, which wrote on its website that it is "a tiny statement regarding self-image". Following a social media storm, the NYU store removed the item from its shelves, and Wry Baby said it had been an "ironic joke". It also stopped selling the item, replacing it with a onesie that reads 'Love me for my leg rolls", as decided by a public vote. -

In 2011, an American store called Kids N Teens was caught selling crotchless pants for girls as young as seven. Gymboree, an iconic American maker of children's clothes, sparked the ire of parents with its toddler shirts that read "Smart like Dad" and "Pretty like Mommy". When bloggers accused Gymboree of stereotyping and reinforcing retro gender roles, the shirts were withdrawn from their shelves. -

If you're worried nobody can tell if your bald baby is a girl or a boy, or if you just want to jazz up your baby's head, Girlie Glue will solve that problem for you.
Girlie Glue is the latest bizarre "girl" product to hit the shops, and as the website proclaims: "It's never too early to be girlie."
It sells bows, hearts and flower shapes to go with the glue, which they guarantee will "hold her accessories in place all day long".
CEO Katie Hydrick says she came up with the unusual idea when she wanted to put clips in her daughter's hair - but realised she had yet to grow any hair of her own.
Hydrick invented the recipe for the glue herself. The website states, "It's made from agave nectar and other all-natural ingredients. It's safe, 100 percent honey-free and washes away easily with water.
"Girlie Glue is an all-natural accessory glue – no hair necessary! Fancy possibilities are endless with a dab of Girlie Glue."
Never one to let us down, Twitter has come up with all kinds of ridicule for the product.
"Finally there's a way to tell girls and boys apart," exclaimed one tweet. "Not sure boyieglue is available."
One mum said, "Waste of [money], I can buy my own agave nectar and use it to attach things to my children. Also, why 'girlie glue'? What if I want to glue a monster truck or tool to my son?"
But why limit the fun to children? One tweeter said, "I'm going to buy some #girlieglue, shave my head and stick on random things. Train ticket, leaf, etc."
Another was inspired for other projects, "Get me some Girlie Glue and a bag of googly eyes. Stat!"
One tweeter possibly summed up how many of us feel. "'Girlie glue'? I've truly lost faith in humanity."
