Aussie dance act PNAU perform surprise 21st birthday backyard gig

When Perth woman Chantal Perich emailed Australian music act PNAU to ask if they would play at her backyard 21st birthday party, even she admitted it was a bit of a long shot.

After being knocked back by their production company, in a last ditch attempt, she messaged one of the trio, Nick Littlemore, after learning the DJs were in Perth to perform at Hot Dub Wine Machine in the Swan Valley on Saturday, the same night as her Coachella themed event.

"I thought, I'll just give [their production company] a message and see if they want to do a house party... they pretty much said to me the money I offered wasn't enough," she said.

"Then I decided to message Nick Littlemore, one of the PNAU guys, and he said, 'that sounds really great'."

Nick put Ms Perich in touch with the group's touring company, and the night before her party, everything had fallen into place.

The trio arrived at Ms Perich's family home in Mount Pleasant around 9.30pm and gave her and her 150 stunned guests a free one-hour set, even joining in to sing happy birthday.

"I've been a huge fan of PNAU since their music from years ago," she said.

"They came just before speeches and I just surprised all my friends, it was great, they didn't charge anything either, it was the best thing ever, I was so happy.

"They stayed for about an hour and they were so down to earth, I had family friends talking to them...I still can't believe it."

PNAU had just finished a blistering set in front of thousands at the sold-out Hot Dub Time Machine before swinging by Ms Perich's house with supporting vocalist Kira Divine on their way to an after-party.

The group are next scheduled to tour with Groovin in the Moo in Adelaide, New South Wales and Queensland later this month after having just wrapped up their Chameleon tour.
