$A takes a dip but avoids a dive

The Australian dollar started the year at US72¢, and surged above US77¢ in the middle of March.

The Australian dollar's 2017 surge appears to be at an end, with the currency rapidly falling in the past few weeks to dip below US75 cents earlier this week.

Banks lift ASX to another high

Banks had "a bit of support" in Tuesday's ASX trading session.

The Australian sharemarket defied weak offshore leads and falling iron ore prices to close at a fresh two-year high.

BHP pressured to abandon dual structure

Under the plan, BHP would move from a dual listing in Britain and Australia to a single Australian listing.
