Senegal (i/ˌsɛnᵻˈɡɔːl, -ˈɡɑːl/;French: le Sénégal), officially the Republic of Senegal (French: République du Sénégal [ʁepyblik dy seneɡal]), is a country in West Africa. Senegal's economical and political capital is Dakar. It is the westernmost country in the mainland of the Old World, or Eurafrasia, and owes its name to the Sénégal River, which borders it to the east and north. The name "Senegal" comes from the Wolof "Sunuu Gaal," which means "Our Boat." Senegal covers a land area of almost 197,000 square kilometres (76,000 sq mi) and has an estimated population of about 13 million. The climate is Sahelian, but there is a rainy season.
The territory of modern Senegal has been inhabited by various ethnic groups since the prehistoric era. Organized kingdoms emerged around the seventh century, and parts of the country were ruled by prominent regional empires such as the Wolof. The present state of Senegal has its roots in European colonialism, which began during the mid-15th century, when various European powers began competing for trade in the area. The establishment of coastal trading posts gradually gave way to control of the mainland, culminating in French rule of the area by the 19th century, albeit amid much local resistance. Senegal peacefully attained independence from France in 1960, and has since been among the more politically stable countries in Africa.

People are always trying to conjure up a magic formula for getting young people interested in the news, but two Senegalese rappers may have cracked it. Keyti and Xuman - both veterans of Dakar's huge hip-hop scene - present the Journal Rappe, a short TV show that covers the week's news in a hip-hop format. The show was launched in April as a new way for the duo to combine their music with news, politics and entertainment. Journal Rappe takes a humourous approach to current affairs but the rappers take their mission seriously, regularly criticising politicians and encouraging people to register to vote. "I think that the only way to draw people in and capture their attention is to make the product interesting," said Keyti. "That they see we are having a good time making it, because whethe...
Synopsis: Slavery was officially abolished in French Sudan (nowadays Mali) by the French colonial administration in 1905 but effective emancipation of former slaves happened to be a very long process, which would still be topical beyond the Independence of Mali in 1960. Our documentary film collects the memories of slavery in Kayes. By telling the story of those who resisted slavery by escaping their masters and by founding new independent and free communities in the district of Kayes in the first half of the twentieth century, this documentary film is a unique audiovisual archive of slave emancipation in Mali. Senegalese hip-hop duo Journal Rappé have found a way to make young people engage with the news by rapping weekly roundups that are humorous, totally subjective and often a little impertinent. Keyti and Xuman, two of the country’s most popular rappers, launched Journal Rappé in 2013. Their short TV programme covers the weekly news. Although the news is treated with a degree of humour, the pair cover pretty serious issues and are often critical of those in power. Xuman had the idea while working in radio shows where he was often around journalists and thought that rapping the news might be an interesting way to engage the younger generations. “There is a long tradition in hip hop here [Senegal], particularly hip hop being political. If you want to be successful as a rap artist somewhere...

Despite substantial improvements in their economy, Senegalese are pessimistic about their economic future.
http://www.worldbank.org - Until recently, over one hundred thousand vehicles were entering and exiting Dakar, Senegal, using on double lane highway that was often burdened with heavy traffic delays and broken down vehicles. The high transport cost threatened the capital's ability to serve as a regional economic hub. The Dakar Diamniadio Toll Highway, the result of a partnership between the government and the development community, has greatly improved access to goods and services, and improved commute times for the Senegalese workforce.

So what you know about seeing that brand new mother givin away her newborn child
So what you know about Mr.Amadou diallo, a Senegalese, cops shot down
So what you know about how people love to perceive us when we come into a brand new town
So what you know about the Goree Island, where all the slaves were shipped from
So what you know about being born in America to avoid immigration
[Chorus]
Still from the ghetto ooohh of Senegal (Africa!Africa!)
Comin' from the ghetto ooohh of Senegal (Africa! Africa!)
Comin' from the ghetto ooohh of Senegal (Africa! Africa!)
Yes, I'm comin' from the ghetto ooohh of Senegal (Africa! Africa!)
[Verse 2]
