Size has been one of the most interesting aspects of dinosaur science to the general public and to scientists. Dinosaurs show some of the most extreme variations in size of any land animal group, ranging from the tiny hummingbirds, which can weigh as little as three grams, to the extinct titanosaurs, which could weigh as much as 70 tonnes.
Scientists will probably never be certain of the largest and smallest dinosaurs to have ever existed. This is because only a tiny percentage of animals ever fossilize, and most of these remain buried in the earth. Few of the specimens that are recovered are complete skeletons, and impressions of skin and other soft tissues are rare. Rebuilding a complete skeleton by comparing the size and morphology of bones to those of similar, better-known species is an inexact art, and reconstructing the muscles and other organs of the living animal is, at best, a process of educated guesswork. Weight estimates for dinosaurs are much more variable than length estimates, because estimating length for extinct animals is much more easily done from a skeleton than estimating weight. Estimating weight is most easily done with the laser scan skeleton technique that puts a "virtual" skin over it, but even this is only an estimate.
North America is a continent entirely within the Northern Hemisphere and almost all within the Western Hemisphere. It can also be considered a northern subcontinent of the Americas. It is bordered to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, and to the southeast by South America and the Caribbean Sea.
North America covers an area of about 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 square miles), about 16.5% of the earth's land area and about 4.8% of its total surface. North America is the third largest continent by area, following Asia and Africa, and the fourth by population after Asia, Africa, and Europe.
In 2013, its population was estimated at nearly 565 million people in 23 independent states, or about 7.5% of the world's population, if nearby islands (most notably the Caribbean) are included.
North America was reached by its first human populations during the last glacial period, via crossing the Bering land bridge. The so-called Paleo-Indian period is taken to have lasted until about 10,000 years ago (the beginning of the Archaic or Meso-Indian period). The Classic stage spans roughly the 6th to 13th centuries. The Pre-Columbian era ended with the arrival of European settlers during the Age of Discovery and the Early Modern period. Present-day cultural and ethnic patterns reflect different kind of interactions between European colonists, indigenous peoples, African slaves and their descendants. European influences are strongest in the northern parts of the continent while indigenous and African influences are relatively stronger in the south. Because of the history of colonialism, most North Americans speak English, Spanish or French and societies and states commonly reflect Western traditions.
Tyrannosaurus (/tᵻˌrænəˈsɔːrəs/ or /taɪˌrænəˈsɔːrəs/, meaning "tyrant lizard", from the Ancient Greek tyrannos (τύραννος), "tyrant", and sauros (σαῦρος), "lizard") is a genus of coelurosaurian theropod dinosaur. The species Tyrannosaurus rex (rex meaning "king" in Latin), commonly abbreviated to T. rex, is one of the most well-represented of the large theropods. Tyrannosaurus lived throughout what is now western North America, on what was then an island continent known as Laramidia. Tyrannosaurus had a much wider range than other tyrannosaurids. Fossils are found in a variety of rock formations dating to the Maastrichtian age of the upper Cretaceous Period, 68 to 66 million years ago. It was the last known member of the tyrannosaurids, and among the last non-avian dinosaurs to exist before the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.
Like other tyrannosaurids, Tyrannosaurus was a bipedal carnivore with a massive skull balanced by a long, heavy tail. Relative to its large and powerful hind limbs, Tyrannosaurus fore limbs were short but unusually powerful for their size and had two clawed digits. The most complete specimen measures up to 12.3 m (40 ft) in length, up to 4 meters (13 ft) tall at the hips, and up to 6.8 metric tons (7.5 short tons) in weight. Although other theropods rivaled or exceeded Tyrannosaurus rex in size, it is still among the largest known land predators and is estimated to have exerted the largest bite force among all terrestrial animals. By far the largest carnivore in its environment, Tyrannosaurus rex was most likely an apex predator, preying upon hadrosaurs, ceratopsians, and possibly sauropods. Some experts, however, have suggested the dinosaur was primarily a scavenger. The question of whether Tyrannosaurus was an apex predator or a pure scavenger was among the longest ongoing debates in paleontology. It is accepted now that Tyrannosaurus rex acted as a predator, and scavenged as modern mammalian and avian predators do.
Dinosaurs are a diverse group of animals of the clade Dinosauria. They first appeared during the Triassic period, 231.4 million years ago, and were the dominant terrestrial vertebrates for 135 million years, from the start of the Jurassic (about 200 million years ago) until the end of the Cretaceous (66 million years ago), when the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event led to the extinction of most dinosaur groups at the end of the Mesozoic Era. Until the late 20th century, all groups were believed to be extinct; however, the fossil record indicates that birds are modern feathered dinosaurs, having evolved from theropod ancestors during the Jurassic Period. As such, birds were the only dinosaurs to survive the mass extinction event.

More than 10 years after finding foot and tail fossils in Victoria's south-west, scientists have identified a new dinosaur that roamed what has been described as Australia's "lost world".The fossils were found in 113-million-year-old rocks that form a sea platform near Cape Otway in 2005 by a volunteer prospector.University of Queensland's School of Biological Sciences alumnus Dr Matt Herne said scientists have now figured out the bones belonged to a turkey-sized herbivore, which lived in the Australian-Antarctic rift valley."It's taken quite a while to … work out exactly what the skeleton is, and what the skeleton's evolutionary relationships are," he said."It takes time and very careful and detailed examination, so that's partly why it's taken so long to get out to now." The dinosaur has...

A newly published study details a small dinosaur about the size of a turkey that was discovered in Australia. Named Diluvicursor pickeringi, the dinosaur was small, herbivorous, and bipedal with a very long tail. Researchers found a partial skeleton — just that long tail and some foot bones — belonging to the dinosaur fossilized in rock dating back 113 million years. The newly discovered dinosaur is an ornithopod, one that researchers say had lived in a rift valley that at one time existed between Antarctica and Australia. Rock remnants from that valley are found in southern Australia around Victoria, where they make sea cliffs and rocky platforms. The dinosaur’s tail is described as having been “extraordinarily long.” Though detailed recently in the journal PeerJ, the fossil discovery it...
A herbivorous dinosaur fossil found in 113 million year old rocks in Australia The fossilized remains of a herbivorous dinosaur were found in ancient rocks in Australia. The fast-running dinosaur is actually the size of a turkey. Australia is home to many unique creatures, and it turns out that it has been that way for millions of years. Research recently the discovery of the partial skeleton of a dinosaur the size of a turkey lodged in rocks of 113 million years. The fossilized remains were found protruding from a rock near Cape Otway in 2005. Although the fossils found were incomplete, consisting of an almost complete tail and a hind leg, after extensive examination, they found that the creature was probably the size of a turkey, a close relative of rapid execution of the already known...

Never-seen-before dinosaur the size of a turkey that roamed Earth 113 million years ago discovered. A new turkey-sized dinosaur that roamed the planet 113 million years ago has been discovered. The roar-some find shows that the plant-eating creature lived in a valley that once existed between Australia and Antarctica. And it reveals just how diverse the small, two-legged herbivorous dinosaurs - called ornithopods - really were. Part of the reptile's skeleton was found in sea cliffs near Cape Otway in the south eastern Australian state of Victoria.

This video shows the scaling of the dinosaurs in TJ's Rogue Realism mod when compared to the human model. Some of them, like the Baryonyx, look much larger because the upscaling affects the camera. I did think it would be neat, however, to see how they all stack up against each other currently. Note that the mod is always changing so these sizes aren't necessarily permanent! Prehistoric Dinosaur Pig - Documentary Films For many years scientists have speculated that the speedy, carnivorous raptors (more appropriately termed Dromaeosaurs), such as Velociraptor and Deinonychus were pack hunters. Movies such as "Jurassic Park" popularised theories about these animals, making them out to be vicious, ruthless, yet intelligent killers. Hollywood's depiction of these swift hunters stretched the truth to say the least, the likes of Velociraptor became a man-sized predator when in truth it stood about one metre tall. Even the sickle-shaped foot claw on the second toe was blown out of proportion to some extent. Movie Directors wanted to show this claw as a razor- sharp scythe capable of tearing victims to pieces, recent studies indicate that in Velociraptor's case the ...
