Midnight Oil returning to Selina's for one-off pub show

Midnight Oil's secret is finally out. The pub show that will serve as both a warm-up to their world tour and a symbolic return to their roots, has been announced.

The reformed band will play at the fabled beer barn Selina's in Sydney's eastern suburbs haunt, the Coogee Bay Hotel.

Midnight Oil announce 2017 world tour

Drummer Rob Hirst and frontman Peter Garrett say they're several weeks into rehearsals for their upcoming tour and they've 'never felt nastier', during a press event on-board the Mari Nawi in Sydney Harbour.

Even though for a pub venue Selina's is big, with much larger gigs - such as the two Domain shows that in November will end the tour that begins in South America in April - sold out in minutes, the April 13 show will undoubtedly be massively over-subscribed.

To manage sales and expectations, the band will conduct a ballot for the opportunity to buy tickets. Fans will have to register at the official Ticketek website between 8am today and 8am on Monday April 2, with restrictions of one registration per person.

A "completely random electronic process" will select the successful ones who will then be able to buy a maximum of two tickets, which will retail at $99.90. The purchase period will be between noon on April 4 and noon on April 7.

Continuing their anti-scalping tactics, Midnight Oil will not issue physical tickets for this show (and advise potential buyers on re-sale sites later that anyone offering tickets "cannot possibly be telling the truth"), buyers must attend the show and not be buying on behalf of another, and the ticket purchaser will need to prove identity on the night to be allowed entry.
