An unknown shooter is on the run after firing on two men in Melbourne's south-east.
Detectives investigating the case have been told the pair were walking along Woonah Street in Chadstone when they were both shot about 5am on Monday.

"Detectives are currently on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information."
Dan Petsinis, who lives a few houses away from the crime scene, woke up to 10 text messages from friends checking that he was safe. That was how he learnt of the shooting in his "quiet street".

The 27-year-old, who works in IT, said he felt "on edge" and would now be more cautious.
"Sometimes I walk down here in the morning as early as 5am and it makes me sit and think about doing something like that," he said.

One neighbour who wanted to remain anonymous said she was not surprised by news of the shooting, describing Woonah Street as "dodgy".Â
Her house has been broken in to twice in the past three years she has lived on the street and she said she regularly sees people who she describes as "drug-affected" and "dishevelled" walking past her house.
