Dov Kornits

After graduating from the University of New South Wales with Honours in Film & Theatre, Dov Kornits produced a film review show on Community TV in Sydney, and started reviewing films and interviewing film talent for street press, gay press, fashion mags and early online portals as a freelancer. In 1997, he co-founded FilmInk Magazine, Australia’s only consumer movie magazine at the time. Eighteen years later, FilmInk continues to provide an eclectic coverage of movie matters in Australia and around the world through both print and digital means.

In his spare time, Kornits also dabbles in film distribution and publishing.

City I call home: Sydney

Genre/style/region of cinema I am most passionate about: Australian and US cinema, and I am particularly excited about ‘realistic’ cinema; something that reflects our lives or the world that we live in, and the struggles of human existence.

A film that changed me/my mind: Three Women because it showed me how cinema can be so much more than just about telling stories.

MIFF 2015 film I’m most looking forward to: Pasolini and Heaven Knows What.

I’m looking forward to Critics Campus because: I think that not only will I learn a great deal from the passionate young critics, but am always glad when I can pass on the knowledge about how the industry works, both film and journalism, through my 20 years of experience grinding through it.

Cinema excites me because: It has the ability to unearth hidden emotions and compassion within.
