If you were asked to name the types of architecture that would be at home in an alpine environment, “Swiss chalet style” might likely be at the top of the list.

However, an East Jindabyne resort that is for sale at an asking price of $2.25 million turns that convention on its head.

Siesta Villa on Jerrara Drive owes its unique Iberian styling to its original 1960s builder who hailed from the land of flamenco and tapas.

But it’s not that odd. After all, the Pyrenees between Spain and France offer some of the best ski resorts in Europe, making Siesta Villa right at home in a Snowies winter wonderland.

And not only is it perfectly sited as a springboard to Thredbo, Perisher, Charlotte’s Pass and Smiggins Holes, it has a prime waterfront location on Lake Jindabyne.

Siesta Villa sits on 7252 square metres with trout fishing at the back door and year-round outdoor options from skiing in winter to mountain bike riding and hiking in the warmer months.

Richard and Sharon Soer bought the resort in 2013 after running the local Jindy Inn for several years.

“We had lunch at Siesta one day and thought we’d love to buy it. It has a great location and it was a step up in size from the Jindy, Richard says.

“Part of the challenge was that it was a little run down and we wanted to help realise its potential.”

Since then, the couple have modernised the rooms and upgraded other facilities. Some $140,000 was invested in an extension and fitout of the commercial kitchen and on 26 new bathrooms.

“Our other business focus was to strengthen the Siesta’s appeal as a year-round venue and to develop the function side of the business for events, meetings and so on,” Richard says.

“Those efforts are certainly now being reflected in online reviews with Siesta regularly rating above 8/10.”

Siesta Villa has 37 rooms including three spa suites over two buildings that sit on beautifully maintained landscaped grounds with stunning lake and landscape views. There’s also a guest lounge, games room and bar, as well as large outdoor deck.

The manager’s residence comprises an open plan lounge/dining with kitchen and two en suite bedrooms.

Richard says there is potential for further development opportunities, like more accommodation, subject to council approval.

“The Siesta Villa would suit a couple who have energy and ideas and who like the idea of being part of a great local community,” he says.
