A man jailed for having sex with an underage girl he later married will be released from jail after his sentence was reduced on appeal.
The man, who can't be identified, began a sexual relationship with a girl when she was 14 in 1988, but no complaint was made to police until 16 years later when the pair were engaged in a custody fight over their three children.
He was ultimately jailed for nine years and 11 months after pleading guilty to a charge of maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child but that has been substituted for a four-year sentence, which will be suspended from Friday, when the Queensland Court of Appeal handed down its judgment.
