NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship

The NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship refers to one of two championships in men's ice hockey contested by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) since 1971 to determine the top team in the NCAA Division I and Division III. The NCAA Division II Men's Ice Hockey Championship was held from 1978 to 1982 and from 1993 to 1999, but it was discontinued due to a lack of Division II conferences sponsoring ice hockey.

The semi-finals and finals are branded as the "Frozen Four", a nod to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship - known as the Final Four in its final rounds. The final two rounds of the hockey tournament were first referred to as the Frozen Four in 1999.

The NCAA started a Women's Frozen Four beginning with the 2000-01 season.

The Hobey Baker Award ceremony, Hockey Humanitarian Award ceremony, and USCHO.com Town Hall Meeting take place annually during Frozen Four weekend.

North Dakota

North Dakota (pronunciation: ⁱ/ˌnɔːrθ dəˈkoʊtə/; locally [ˌno̞ɹθ dəˈko̞ɾə]) is the 39th state of the United States, having been admitted to the union on November 2, 1889.

North Dakota is located in the U.S. region known as the Great Plains. The state shares the Red River of the North with Minnesota on the east; South Dakota is to the south, Montana is to the west, and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba are north. North Dakota is situated near the middle of North America with a stone marker in Rugby, North Dakota marking the "Geographic Center of the North American Continent". With an area of 70,762 square miles (183,273 km²), North Dakota is the 19th largest state.

Ice hockey

Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters use their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent's net to score points. Ice hockey teams usually consist of four lines of three forwards, three pairs of defencemen, and two goaltenders. Normally, each team has five players who skate up and down the ice trying to take the puck and score a goal against the opposing team.

A fast-paced, physical sport, hockey is most popular in areas of North America (particularly Canada and the northern United States) and northern and western Europe. In North America, the National Hockey League (NHL) is the highest level for men's hockey and the most popular. The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) is the highest league in Russia and much of Eastern Europe. Ice hockey is the official national winter sport of Canada, where the game enjoys immense popularity. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is the formal governing body for international ice hockey. The IIHF manages international tournaments and maintains the IIHF World Ranking.
