Fascinating insight into recent events in the life of lorry mechanic/bike racer/reluctant TV star. I have minimal interest in TT racing and only stumbled upon his TV series "Speed" by chance but was immediately hooked through Guy's engaging character and the engineering challenges he faced while attempting to set new speed records in a variety of fields.
This book is Guy's third autobiography (but the first one I read) and picks up after his horrific crash racing in the Ulster GP in 2015 which left him with a broken back amongst other injuries. This book tells of how we was back and work fixing lorries within two weeks and was soon back in the swing of more extreme physical and engineering challenges such as the fastest wall of death ride (live on TV) and the fastest ever motorbike in the salt flats of the USA. These feats will be well known to fans of his TV show but the book gives more insight into what wasn't evident on screen including run-ins with the TV company and some of the experts advising him.
A large part of this book focuses on a challenge that he deliberately didn't film - a gruelling cycle race from Canada to Mexico along the "Great Divide" (the point at which water to the west flows to the Pacific and water to the east flows to the Atlantic) - rough sleeping and with no support or contact with friends.
Guy won't win any awards for his literary prowess but the book is written in an easy going and plain speaking style and gives a different angle on his personality and motivations that doesn't necessarily come across on TV.
It's a cracking read - I read through it all in three sittings - and within a few chapters I was back online ordering his first two books.

‘I was never going to sleep in and take it easy, there were worms to catch.’
In August 2015 Guy Martin crashed out of the lead of an Ulster Grand Prix superbike race held on the world’s fastest racetrack. He had invasive surgery to bolt his broken spine and hand back together, and within days he decided he needed some time away from road racing. But he wasn’t about to take it easy …
In his brand new book, discover how Britain’s favourite daredevil fills his time when road racing is taken out of the equation.
He set about breaking records on the world’s biggest Wall of Death, cycling 2,745 miles across the length of the United States (while sleeping rough), attempting to be the fastest person ever on two wheels and travelling to Latvia to investigate his family’s roots.
There’s some thrilling racing too, including wild Harley choppers on dirt and turbo-charged Transit vans through the Nevada desert. And there’s the day job to get back to in North Lincolnshire – the truck yard and the butty van.

Product description
About the Author
Except for one summer spent sleeping inside a truck in a concrete yard in Northern Ireland, Guy Martin has lived within 20 miles of the Grimsby hospital he was born in, on the 4th November 1981. But that hasn’t stopped the professional truck mechanic from winning multiple international road races, plus scoring fifteen Isle of Man TT podiums. Nor has it prevented him from becoming a regular face on prime-time Channel 4, presenting critically acclaimed documentaries and travelogues, as well as his popular returning series Speed with Guy Martin. Did we mention he’s also the author of three phenomenal number-one bestselling memoirs? Not bad for a truck fitter.

Brilliant book just like the first two. Love Tue way he just says it as it is and is so down to earth. Doesn't matter if you're not into Road racing or bikes there is so much more to guy and it's well worth a read. Can't wait to get my copy of his new book.

Guy Martin is a wonderful character and his book is a great read. He is a very interesting bloke and a real dare devil. His books are always a joy to read just like the programmes he makes for TV. I am always on the look out for anything new about Guy Martin

Very interesting and funny read. I think Guy is a down to earth man. While he is doing tv work, his feet still seem planted firmly on the ground. He does some stuff to push himself physically and mentally.

I’ve read the other books by Guy Martin, and this book is just as good if not better. Guys antics are all told with just the right amount of detail and humour.
He is an amazing man showing humility and a brave drive to be the best he can, whilst doing some amazingly dangerous things and above all punishing his body to achieve it.
Can’t wait for his next book and tv program to come out.
Wishing him all the best with his endeavours.

The book is read as Guy speaks that adds more character to the book. Thoroughly looking forward to reading more from Guy on his other adventures and tribulations.

I'm not an avid book reader, but with that being said, I couldn't put the book down. I ended up purchasing another book of his when I finished with this. It's pretty cool to hear all of the things that he's involved with.
