World news or international news or even foreign coverage is the news media jargon for news from abroad, about a country or a global subject. For journalism, it is a branch that deals with news either sent by foreign correspondents or news agencies, or — more recently — information that is gathered or researched through distance communication technologies, such as telephone, satellite TV or the internet.
Although in most of the English-speaking world this field is not usually regarded as a specific specialization for journalists, it is so in nearly all the world. Particularly in the United States, there is a blurred distinction between world news and "national" news when they include directly the national government or national institutions, such as wars in which the US are involved or summits of multilateral organizations in which the US are a member.
Actually, at the birth of modern journalism, most news were actually foreign, as registered by the courants of the 17th century in West and Central Europe, such as the Daily Courant (England), the Nieuwe Tijudinger (Antwerp), the Relation (Strasbourg), the Avisa Relation oder Zeitung (Wolfenbüttel) and the Courante Uyt Italien, Duytsland & C. (Amsterdam). Since these papers were aimed at bankers and merchants, they brought mostly news from other markets, which usually meant other nations. In any case, it is worthy to remark that nation-states were still incipient in 17th-century Europe.
World News may refer to one of the following sources that covers international news:
ITN World News was a newscast shown during the late 1980s and most of the 1990s. It was either shown on cable or satellite television, or shown internationally. The newscast was broadcast from London, England, and was produced by Independent Television News. A domestic (national) version was also shown in the United Kingdom on terrestrial television.
ITN World News began broadcasting on Super Channel, and aired on NBC Europe, Nine Network Australia, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations and most of the ITV regions. The broadcast began in 1987, and has not been seen on (British) screens since 1999. The newscast was produced by ITN and broadcast from its London Bureau.
ITN World News began life as ITN Super Channel News, a newscast for the then-newly formed pan-European satellite channel, Super Channel. The newscast began broadcasting in 1987, and its main broadcast was shown live at 21.00 GMT (22.00 CET). Its main presenters were John Suchet, Sue Carpenter, and David Cass. Trevor McDonald and Edward Stourton were later newscasters for the programme.
Independent Television News (ITN) is a British-based news and content provider. It is made up of three divisions: ITN News, ITN Source and ITN Productions. ITN is based in London, with bureaux and offices in Beijing, Brussels, Jerusalem, Johannesburg, New York, Paris, Sydney and Washington DC.
ITN produces content for ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, UK mobile phone operators, online outlets such as YouTube, MSN, Telegraph Media Group, Yahoo!, and film producers and researchers worldwide.
Between 1955 and 1999, ITN was more commonly known as the general brand name of ITV's news programmes. Since 1999, ITN is no longer used as the brand name; however, the company still produces all ITV News programmes.
ITN was founded in January 1955 by the Independent Television Authority, as part of the new British commercial television network referred to as "Independent Television" (later ITV).
New Horizons is an interplanetary space probe that was launched as a part of NASA's New Frontiers program. Engineered by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), with a team led by S. Alan Stern, the spacecraft was launched with the primary mission to perform a flyby study of the Pluto system, and a secondary mission to fly by and study one or more other Kuiper belt objects (KBOs).
On January 19, 2006, New Horizons was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station directly into an Earth-and-solar escape trajectory with a speed of about 16.26 kilometers per second (58,536 km/h; 36,373 mph). After a brief encounter with asteroid 132524 APL, New Horizons proceeded to Jupiter, making its closest approach on February 28, 2007, at a distance of 2.3 million kilometers (1.4 million miles). The Jupiter flyby provided a gravity assist that increased New Horizons' speed; the flyby also enabled a general test of New Horizons' scientific capabilities, returning data about the planet's atmosphere, moons, and magnetosphere.

This is the start of the ITN news broadcast feed from London. It was transmitted daily on the Eutelsat satellite. This was the main news program of the famous "Super channel" during late 1980s and early 1990s.
Format created and directed by Jamie Langton, this x8 'daily' commercial campaign followed 2 teenage students as they first ventured into the adult world with work experience. We shot the ads in the morning, edited in the afternoon and transmitted that night on a specially commissioned slot for these ads only during News at Ten. This digital short was commissioned for the program "SWEN - The News Backwards", a program where different artists got to remix and create news packages. The program was created by Flame TV and this film was aired as part of the program on Channel 4 in 2001. "Echelon" is The Light Surgeons journalistic investigation into the Menwith Hill US Airbase in Northfolk, which was in the news papers at the time, it is alleged that it has a large collection of radar and telecommunications devices on the base which are used for defense and also spying or monitoring commercial activity abroad to further American interests around the world. The Light Surgeons were given access to a limited amount of ITN news archive footage, the rest of the footage and interviews were recorded on location near the ba...
Tiny, faraway Pluto was first spied in 1930. This icy world is one of thousands of rocky bodies that make up the Kuiper Belt, a ring that circles our solar system beyond Neptune. Until recently, the most powerful telescopes on Earth and in space could only capture blurry impressions of Pluto and its moons. But in 2015, New Horizons became the first spacecraft to visit the Pluto system, returning detailed images and data that will bring our distant neighbor’s surface, atmosphere, and internal composition into focus for the first time. On Boxing Day 2015, we woke up to the worst flooding in many years. After seeing the dramatic Face Book posts from some of our friends I headed out to Hebden Bridge to see if we could help. It took nearly 4 hours to reach Hebden Bridge, a journey which normally takes half a hour, driving our 4x4 through bonnet deep water. I managed to collect the UAV, aircraft from our Sowerby Bridge studio gathering mobile phone footage on the way. Within ten minutes of setting off I realised we were about to capture some historical footage that the world needed to see. Once in Hebden Bridge we managed to capture the only Drone footage of the town under water taken by a professional drone company. Ourselves , Halo Vue. Next, We headed back to the studio and created a short film of the floods. We then sta...

Here's an interview with Mr Smith and King Leetch at the Isle of Wight Festival 2010, for the ITN news channel and on a very uncomfortable looking chair. Funny hearing them discussing what would end up being The Weight of Your Love, and how they wanted to further explore the world they'd created with ITLAOTE. The fickle guiding hand of fate, however, would have very different ideas... There's more from this festival available by visiting the Archive with the link below, enjoy the chat ;) http://lemmingarchive.blogspot.com/2016/07/fragments-from-isle-of-wight-festival.html brought to you with lots and lots of lemming-love :) x
