This is an interesting book and is well written but Greg himself comes across terribly throughout. What a life he's had but the way he has dealt with it makes him very unlikeable. He does however come across as being more mature in that he can reflect on his past behaviour and recognise his issues but after willing myself to like him, I just can't. I have followed athletics and Greg's career for years but had no idea how much of a loose cannon he appears to be.You wouldn't expect such a smiley, articulate and successful athlete to have such a dark side which he discusses in full in the book. It's well worth a read and it's nice to see he has had a lot of success other then being Olympic Champion. He has all major titles to his name which is quite an achievement, it's just a shame that throughout the book he comes across as wanting to have more fame and recognition above anything else.

Personally I think Greg comes across really well in this book. He's very honest. It hasn't always been easy. His parents "physically punished" him as a child, but he now has what seems to be a positive relationship with them. The coaching set up hasn't always been ideal. And long jump does not receive the same levels of sponsorship etc as some other events. He is also honest about sometimes having drunk to excess etc. The book itself is well written, and I really enjoyed reading it. Good luck for this season and for your future endeavours, Greg!

I found Greg's book heartbreaking when he tells about the cruelty involved in the Jehovah's witness faith, in not observing Christmas, birthdays or Easter and how his parents didn't allow him to go to his friend's' parties. He has to listen later how much fun they all had. He tells of how he is beaten with a wooden spoon regularly by his mother. It is hardly surprising considering all this that he goes off the rails I his teenage years.

An amazing athlete who by sheer guts and determination has all the major medals. He doesn't pull any punches in this book and cc I can thoroughly recommend it.
