During 1973 testimony before Congress, the CEO of America's largest cooperative of milk producers said that while Johnson was President, his cooperative had leased Johnson's private jet at a "plush" price, which Johnson wanted to continue once he was out of office.[24] Johnson continued the FBI's wiretapping of Martin Luther King, Jr. that had been previously authorized by the Kennedy administration under Attorney General Robert Kennedy.[121] As a result of listening to the FBI's tapes, remarks on King's personal lifestyle were made by several prominent officials, including Johnson, who once said that King was a "hypocritical preacher."[122] Johnson also authorized the tapping of phone conversations of others, including the Vietnamese friends of a Nixon associate.[123] In Latin America, ...
Now this a good treat right here. I believe this a full broadcast of the ABC Evening News from January 1968. ABC Went through a lot of changes in 1968, the year started with Bob Young as the anchorman, he took over for Peter Jennings in late 1967 after the failed experiment. But he was unaffected and boring, and Young served through to at least May or June, then Frank Reynolds took over for his first stint, which lasted until December 1970. Young covered the assassination of MLK and Reynolds took over for the assassination of RFK and the election, but did not anchor the election night coverage, that was Howard K. Smith's job. The main story of this is about disgareemnts between the US and North Korea, and how President Johnson responds to it. There are some other stories, a commentary, ...

On the 5th January 1968, the Prague Spring began when Alexander Dubček became the new First Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. The Prague Spring lasted for just over seven months before the Soviet Union, along with other members of the Warsaw Pact, invaded Czechoslovakia to bring the reforms to a halt. Dubček was a committed Communist, and had been First Secretary of the regional Communist Party of Slovakia since 1963. However he struggled to work with Antonín Novotný, the President of Czechoslovakia, under whose control the country experienced a slow and uneasy move towards destalinization while suffering a huge economic downturn. Frustrated by Novotný’s failure to effectively restructure the country, Dubček and other reformists challenged him at a meeting of the Central...

I was in the Marine Corps and was in Viet Nam from January 1968 - August 1969. First with the BLT 3/1 SLF Bravo (translation; Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, Special Landing Force Bravo -sounds important.) We went ashore on January 23rd and were in the far north for TET. I was in C Battery, 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. I was a radio operator and was Radio Chief from about 8/68 - 8/69. The guys used to call me Corporal K, I got promoted to Sergeant and one guy said "Sergeant K, I don't like that, it don't rhyme." I wish I had taken more pictures, but it's too late to do anything about that.

The Victorian Railways 5 ft 3 in (1,600 mm) gauge branchline to Waubra was opened in 1889. In 1931, passenger services were withdrawn and the line continued as a "goods only" line through to its closure in January 1968. This video is of a last special train excursion from Melbourne to Waubra shortly before the line closed. Special carriages were attached to the regular train from Melbourne which were taken from Ballarat to Waubra by a J class steam locomotive. The tour happened to be run on a very hot summers day. Some of the regular workings in those days are glimpsed as are some Ballarat trams on the former system. The video was reproduced from old 8mm film taken on the day.
Published on Apr 8, 2013 "Big Boy" was the first single ever released by The Jackson 5, in January 1968, through Steeltown Records. The group produced and played instruments on many of their Steeltown compositions, including "Big Boy". The song was neither a critical nor commercial success, but the Jackson family were delighted with the outcome nonetheless. The Jackson 5 would release a second single with Steeltown Records before moving to Motown Records. The group's recordings at Steeltown Records were thought to be lost, but they were rediscovered more than 25 years later. They were remastered and reissued in 1995, with "Big Boy" as the promotional lead single....

January 1, 1968 - #1 Southern California vs. Indiana - Rose Bowl - Pasadena, California.
You wild beasts and you creeping things
Get down in your place,
Down with all the absolutes
And God's awful grace.
Who wants to see this coming?
Who wants to think you do?
Better to be blind when I'm
Falling for you
Go and tell old Pharaoh
His time has come about,
His pretty houseboys laugh and sing
As they're filing out.
They set fire behind them
I see it burning into view,
High upon the mountain where I'm
Falling for you
All manner of abandon
Is just the thing we need,
Get ready for the country, boys,
The town has gone to seed.
The telephone line is sagging
With word coming through:
Put your head between your knees, I'm
Falling for you
I can quit this anytime,
It's just to help me sleep,
It stops the tiny voices
And strange hours that they keep.
Who wants to hear them bleating on,
And have to answer too?
Better to be dumb when I'm
Falling for you
So you ladies and you gentlemen--
Pull your bloomers on,
Swing up on the highest beam
And let the floods come on.
Who wants to be there wondering,
When the Wonders rage on through?
Better to say never when I'm
