Diversity

Great organizations thrive and grow on a diversity of thought and ideas. The Times’s statement of values calls for us to embrace diversity and inclusion. These factors require that we report on our diverse cities, nation and world, with perception and insight. Only by having a staff as wide as it is deep, broad in perspective, backgrounds and experiences are we able to capture the multitude of voices of America and the world, with true fidelity.

Our Mission

The New York Times Company is committed to an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the audience, readers and advertisers we serve. The Times believes that the recruitment, retention and promotion of diverse talent throughout the company enhances our journalism and business and is imperative to the success of our global brand.

Employee Affinity Networks

Employee affinity networks bring people together as a way to educate and promote an environment of understanding, acceptance and diversity and inclusion among all employees. Our networks provide opportunities to develop professionally and enhance networking in the Company while helping to strengthen our shared commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Company currently has eight employee affinity groups, which center on the common interests of Women, those of African, Asian or Latino heritage and our LGBT & Allies (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) employees. Our 50+ affinity network centers on the common issues and concerns of those approaching or over the age of 50. In addition, our Executive Assistants Resource Network (EARN) is dedicated to the interests of the administrative population. Our newest employee network, The Wellness Affinity Group, focuses on promoting a culture of health throughout the organization.

Along with providing a forum for members to discuss challenges and opportunities, affinity networks help support the company’s diversity and inclusion mission by collaborating on issues like mentoring and development, employee engagement, and education and awareness. Every affinity group is open to any and all employees regardless of gender, race, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, marital status or sexual orientation.
