US strikes Syrian airbase over chemical weapon attack

The US Navy has launched a long-range strike on a military airfield near Homs in Syria, firing 59 Tomahawk missiles. Syrian military officials say the attack has killed six. The strike on the base follows a chemical weapon strike on civilians by the Assad regime earlier this week.

Kareem Shaheen, who works for the Guardian, was the first journalist from the western media to visit the site of the chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun in north-western Syria. It left at least 80 people dead including 27 children. Russia and the Syrian government claimed its bombs hit a rebel chemical weapons factory. However, Shaheen's pictures and report from the scene clearly dispute this.
