Police pelted with rocks and bottles as they break up revellers trying to get into Brunswick party

POLICE were pelted with bottles and rocks at an out-of-control party in Brunswick last night.

The dog squad was called in and officers used capsicum spray to subdue about 100 teenagers, many of them drunk, after they were locked out of an alcohol-free party at Rubix Warehouse in Phoenix St.

Brunswick Senior Sergeant Michael Moloney said neighbours called police about 8.30pm after the youths, who were refused entry after the venue reached its 250 capacity, began causing trouble.

It’s believed the party was organised by a 16-year-old who had sold 250 tickets for $20 each, but more people had turned up after the event was advertised on social media.

“Because it’s the school holidays, these kids organised a party and this ... venue operator has accepted it,” Sen-Sgt Moloney said.

“These parties are organised and it just gets overprescribed and kids get pissed off that they can’t get in.”

Sen-Sgt Moloney said he believed many of the underage youth had loaded up on alcohol before arriving at the venue.

Police shut down the event once it had gained control of the situation.

No one was injured and charges are yet to be laid, with investigations continuing.
