Major flood peak for the Fitzroy River at Rockhampton expected today

Queensland Regional Hydrology Manager Victoria Dodds said a height of 8.9 metres was recorded at 2am this morning (Friday).

Rockhampton exceeded the major flood level of 8.5 metres at Rockhampton at 6pm on Wednesday. On Thursday levels oscillated around the 8.8 metre mark. The Bureau of Meteorology won't call the flood peak until this figure starts to recede.

Bureau releases its monthly and seasonal climate outlooks for May to July 2017

The Bureau of Meteorology has released its monthly and seasonal climate outlooks for May to July 2017.

For the months ahead, rainfall likely to be below average over the southern two-thirds of mainland Australia. May is likely to be drier than average over most of Australia, except far northern Australia and Tasmania.

Blue skies return for Queensland, flooding to continue for several days

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie moved out to sea overnight, is not expected to redevelop and poses no threat to the mainland.

Queensland Regional Hydrology Manager, Victoria Dodds, said while the heavy rainfall affecting the southeast has eased, flooding is expected to continue for several days as the floodwaters make their way through rivers and streams.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie has tracked slowly over the central interior toward the southeast today, and will move out to sea overnight.

Queensland Regional Director Bruce Gunn said the low is not expected to redevelop over the ocean, and poses no threat to the mainland.
