April Tool's bank 'prank' goes horribly wrong

Police have charged a man over an alleged April Fools Day prank in Perth's northern suburbs which went too far.

It seems pretending to hold up a bank is not as hilarious as one man thought.

WA Police are some of the hardest workers in the state, but it's cases like these which can help them solve crimes quicker than expected.

The incident is alleged to have happened at the Clarkson Westpac branch on Saturday afternoon, just after 12pm.

Police will allege the man walked into the bank holding a cigarette lighter which was shaped like a small pistol.

They said the man held the lighter above his head, shouted 'this is a bank robbery, give me all your money', and clicked the lighter several times.

Police say the man then laughed off the incident and assured staff and customers it was all just an April Fools joke.

But moments after walking out of the bank, the man was arrested by police.

The 34-year-old man from Butler has been charged with being armed in a way that may cause fear.

He is due to appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court later this month.
