A story of a circus that was once spectacular. But today, its Director's desperate efforts to salvage the past glory, spin out of control, affecting all the artists. But particularly Marianna - a teenage handicap orphan who spent her whole life there. Will it be possible to save the circus? Will Marianna realize her dream and get to perform on the stage of the grand circus that... our world is? Bartek Kulas A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and the Wajda School. He is a director, screenwriter, animator, designer as well as the creator of music videos for Geppert, Przemyk, and Groniec. Multiple winner of film festivals (Krakow Film Festival, T-Mobile New Horizons, Anchorage, OFAFA, Anim'est ...). His film Millhaven, was invited to more than 50 different festivals around the world. His most recent, visionary film is “ Circus Maximus” . Bartek is making his debut in feature films. Just like Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam, Kulas comes from the world of animation. He uses a rich palette of what technology can offer including special effects, and 3D animation. “Circus Maximus” is a syncretic film. It combines its creator’s love for such forms as musical and animation. The aesthetic momentum of the movie reminds of Broadway productions, hence it is difficult to ascribe it clearly to a particular genre. That is why the film defies traditional aesthetic and formal standards. It is difficult to take your eyes off it, and after leaving the cinema, it is hard to switch to the every-day reality. The film is a tale of initiation into adulthood, the need to confront your own weaknesses and risks, which are inherent to the pursuit of dreams. Wielokrotny laureat festiwali filmowych (Krakowski Festiwal Filmowy, T-mobile Nowe Horyzonty, Anchorage, OFAFA, Anim’est…). Jego film "Millhaven", został zaproszony do ponad 50 różnych festiwali na całym świecie. Najnowszym, wizjonerskim filmem pt. "Circus Maximus" - Bartek debiutuje w fabule. Podobnie jak Tim Burton czy Terry Gilliam, Kulas pochodzi ze świata animacji. Korzysta z bogatej palety, jaką oferuje technologia - od efektów specjalnych, po animację 3D. "Circus Maximus" ma charakter synkretyczny - łączy w sobie bowiem umiłowanie jego twórcy do takich form jak: musical i animacja. Rozmach estetyczny filmu przypomina produkcje broadwayowskie, stąd trudno nadać "Circusowi" jednoznaczną łatkę gatunkową. Właśnie dlatego, że film wymyka się utartym normom estetycznym i formalnym, trudno oderwać od niego wzrok, a po wyjściu z kina – trudno przestawić się na zwykłą rzeczywistość. Jest to opowieść o inicjacji w dorosłość, o konieczności konfrontowania się z własnymi słabościami i o ryzyku, jakie niesie za sobą dążenie do spełniania marzeń. Bartek Kulas jest jak jego filmy - niepokorny, niedopasowany, niezmiennie zdziwiony tym, że „jest”.
