We skipped lunch for this? Perth pauses for plane flying slightly lower than usual

88 reading now

Perth, we've done it again.

Some PR company told us a plane was flying over Perth low on Wednesday afternoon and within hours, thousands of people were lining the Swan River, falling for it hook, line and sinker.

Perth's A350-900 Singapore Airlines low flyby

The moment Singapore Airlines A350-900 flew over the Swan River.

Those people have probably gone back to their offices confused and hungry after skipping their lunch breaks to watch a plane fly slightly lower than usual over the Swan River.

The Singapore Airlines plane - flying over the city to celebrate 50 years flying to Perth - was no Antonov An-225, but that didn't stop the hype, with media outlets (including us, oh the shame) racing to Perth's best vantage points to film the flight.

After waiting longer than expected, and ignoring two false screams from a lady pointing vigorously into the sky in front of us, we started to wonder if the plane was coming at all.

The third time the woman screamed, we stupidly fell for it (never trust a woman in sandals) and hit 'go' on our Facebook live stream only to have to spend six minutes filming trees and the back of one man's head.

According to our Facebook live viewers, there was more excitement about the small-to-medium sized boat that drove down the Swan River just before the plane arrived that may or may not have been speeding.

Others were more interested in trying to convince us to push the man in front of us into the river.

WAtoday understands the man remained dry, and contrary to some comments from Facebook livers, we thought his side-bag looked lovely.

Anyway, we digress...

The plane flying over lasted all of about 10 seconds, with people around us laughing at the anticlimax.

Fool us once shame on you (cough, Antonov), fool us twice, shame on us.

Fool us three times...? Look, it's probably going to happen.
