A Gold Coast father is in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed in the throat after chasing down a teenage girl who police say had been breaking into cars.
About 4am, the 45-year-old man and his son, 25, disturbed a group of people allegedly breaking into cars on Monterey Keys Drive in Helensvale.
The father chased down a 15-year-old girl and caught her but she stabbed him in the throat during a struggle, police alleged.
The men detained the girl and police arrested a 17-year-old male nearby after a search.
Both teens remained in police custody as the 45-year-old was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with what police described as "severe lacerations".
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the extent of the injuries was unclear.
