Queen Street bus station closed due to flooding

One of Brisbane's busiest bus stations is closed for the morning peak due to flooding in the major shopping centre above it.

Translink warned passengers on almost 30 bus routes would face half-hour delays because of the Queen Street bus station closure on Wednesday morning.

The Myer Centre itself was also closed, with staff and customers turned away.

A Myer Centre Brisbane spokeswoman said the lower floors, including Coles Central and Target had closed after a water pipe burst on Wednesday morning.

Customers and staff were also being blocked from accessing the upper floors.

"Crews are currently onsite cleaning up and these lower ground floors are expected to open mid-morning," she said.

"At this time our focus is on safety and returning the centre to normal trade as soon as possible."

Centre management has briefed staff on the extent of the flooding.

Workers were told the food court was expected to reopen to staff about 8.30am to allow the clean-up to begin but other levels would remain closed.

Sunglass Hut manager Kita Simpson, 24, said she had been trying to get into work since 6am for stocktake.

Lee Cobb, Beach House Bar and Grill group executive chef, said it made life difficult for him and other workers.

"I've just come into work this morning and anarchy everywhere," he said.

"I couldn't really understand what was going on and it turns out there's burst water pipes everywhere and electricity's been shut down so we can't operate."

A Translink spokeswoman said the flooding was initially thought to be from a burst water main but was later revealed to be some sort of "internal plumbing" issue in the Myer Centre.

The spokeswoman said buses would could not go through the station and would instead stop at street level.

Southern and Eastern bound buses will use Adelaide street stop 48.

Western bound buses will use Elizabeth St outside the casino.

Coles Supermarket have advised Fairfax Media they opened at 8am on Wednesday morning.
