Property billionaire Lang Walker will open his first resort, a luxury development on Fiji's Kokomo Island  next March.

The long-awaited opening for what is being billed as Fiji's most exclusive private island resort comes as the culmination of three years of development already.

Mr Walker is already an aficionado of the island nation, where is he is often to be found sailing his yacht and diving.

The Kokomo project is his first such project, having snapped up the property some years ago in the wake of the global financial crisis.

Five exclusive, three to six-bedroom residences on the island development are up for sale.

"This is a passion project for my family and Kokomo Island embodies my main interests, relaxing on the water's edge and enjoying myriad activities on the water," he said.

The island is the edge of the Kadavu Island group, and is surrounded by the Great Astrolabe Reef, which is home to exotic coral gardens and sea life.

The island features lush rainforest and gardens and white sandy beaches.

Five exclusive, three to six-bedroom residences on the island development are up for sale.

The island development is pitched as a luxury retreat for families and couples. Along with the ritzy accommodation there will be a variety of water activities and a tennis court, gym, spa and restaurants.

Villas in the project will be available for short stays. The accommodation includes a beachfront residence, five hilltop luxury residences, with views across the island.

There are 21 beachfront villas, each with their own pool and private-walled garden.

The Great Astrolabe Reef is the fourth largest in the world and close the shore of Kokomo island.
