Study at VU

Diverse student community

Experience a diverse range of cultures, religions, and languages at Victoria University (VU).

When you study with us, you will share classes, conversations and friendships with students from over 175 different countries.

Because our students join us from so many different locations, we also have more than 140,000 VU alumni living and working around the world.

In 2016, we received a high rating for cultural diversity by the Good University Guide.

Diverse mix of students

As an accessible and friendly university, we attract students from all over Melbourne, regional Victoria, interstate and overseas. Our students represent more than 90 different cultures and speak over 200 different languages.

We are also one of the largest educators of English as an Additional Language (EAL) in Victoria. We have a long history of helping international students, migrants and refugees to succeed in study, work and community integration.

"My family and I arrived in Australia as refugees amid the Bosnian War crisis.

VU gave me the opportunity to pursue a career in communication and I haven't looked back."

Muamer Hot used VU’s industry connections to get a job as a Media Buyer and Planner.

"I have always wanted to study an international degree in communication and Australia's education system helped me achieve my dream. I'm now an editor of Nepali Times Melbourne and the youngest and first female editor of Nepali Print Media in Australia."

Niru Tripathi came from Nepal to study communication at VU.

"In my home country I had no freedom to pursue an education.

VU took me in and drastically influenced my future path for the better. VU attracts the most amazing students locally and from around the world."

Community involvement

Study in an engaging local environment. We are working with Maribyrnong City Council to transform the suburb of Footscray over the next 10 years into Footscray University Town. This initiative will nurture, promote and integrate the renaissance in art, education, sport and innovation in our community.

"VU's multicultural environment helped me develop a great sense of community and cultural competence. The knowledge and experience I gained at VU is the sole reason I am now working as a director of electrical engineering in Turkey."

Gulcin Sahin gained a practical engineering education.
