We're live in the House of Commons where PM Theresa May due to trigger Article 50 thus formally beginning UK's departure from the European Union. Giving official notice under Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, it will be delivered to European Council president Donald Tusk later. In a statement in the Commons, the prime minister will then tell MPs this marks "the moment for the country to come together". It follows June's referendum which resulted in a vote to leave the EU.

The European Parliament's lead Brexit negotiator has told Sky News he doesn't appreciate Theresa May's apparent threat to weaken security commitments to the European Union if Britain is denied a trade deal.
Guy Verhofstadt told Sky's Adam Boulton her letter triggering Article 50 was largely constructive, but said it's wrong to use and abuse the security of citizens to secure a good ecomomic deal.
The two things, he said, are entirely separate. Watch Mr Verhofstadt's full interview with Adam from our All Out Politics show.

Brexit has kept us pretty busy in the newsroom these past months but it has also lead to heated discussion over tea or coffee in the breakroom.
So in the week British Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50, we organised a journalist roundtable to discuss the impact of Brexit.
Christophe Debets from the German Team highlighted the advantages of Brexit. According to him, the UK has the upper hand in the negotiations.
Lesley Alexander from the English Team has been living in France for 20 years, so is worried about her fate, but as the same time excited to see to what the slogan "Take back control" will lead to.
For James O'Hagan, our expert for Northern Ireland, the people were lied to during the Brexit campaign. He also says politicians didn't really think about the problems that could arise in Northern Ireland now the UK is leaving the EU.
And last but not least, Joao Duarte Ferreira from the Portuguese Team, who is living and working in London, noticed a change among the European community on the island.
Many feel unwanted and hurt and fear for their future.
Lena Roche hosts, and tried to referee the energetic discussion.
The one thing everyone agrees on is that the path that will lead the UK towards Brexit is very foggy, with lots of unanswered questions.
As one of our colleagues put it: "It's the new fifty shades of Grey".

United Kingdom withdrawal from the European Union, often shortened to Brexit (short for British exit) is a political aim of some political parties, advocacy groups, and individuals in the United Kingdom (UK) for the country to leave the European Union (EU). In 1975 a referendum was held on the country's membership of the European Economic Community (EEC), a precursor to the EU. The outcome of the vote was that the country continued to be a member of the EEC. More recently the European Union Referendum Act 2015 has been passed to allow for a referendum on the country's membership of the EU, with a vote due to be held before the end of 2017.
History
The United Kingdom joined the EEC, commonly referred to as the Common Market in the UK, on 1 January 1973. This was done under the Conservative government of Edward Heath. The opposition Labour Party, led by Harold Wilson, contested the October 1974 general election with a commitment to renegotiate Britain's terms of membership of the EEC and then hold a referendum on whether to remain in the EEC on the new terms.

Brexit has kept us pretty busy in the newsroom these past months but it has also lead to heated discussion over tea or coffee in the breakroom. So in the week British Prime Minister Theresa May triggered Article 50, we organised a journalist roundtable to discuss the impact of Brexit. Christophe Debets from the German Team highlighted the advantages of Brexit. According to him, the UK has the upper hand in the negotiations. Lesley Alexander from the English Team has been living in France for 20 years, so is worried about her fate, but as the same time excited to see to what the slogan "Take back control" will lead to. For James O'Hagan, our expert for Northern Ireland, the people were lied to during the Brexit campaign. He also says politicians didn't really think about the problems that could arise in Northern Ireland now the UK is leaving the EU. And last but not least, Joao Duarte Ferreira from the Portuguese Team, who is living and working in London, noticed a change among the European community on the island. Many feel unwanted and hurt and fear for their future. Lena Roche hosts, and tried to referee the energetic discussion. The one thing everyone agrees on is that the path that will lead the UK towards Brexit is very foggy, with lots of unanswered questions. Brexit: EU doesn't want UK punished or "to take revenge" says Guy Verhofstadt
The European Parliament's lead Brexit negotiator has told Sky News he doesn't appreciate Theresa May's apparent threat to weaken security commitments to the European Union if Britain is denied a trade deal. Guy Verhofstadt told Sky's Adam Boulton her letter triggering Article 50 was largely constructive, but said it's wrong to use and abuse the security of citizens to secure a good ecomomic deal. We're live in the House of Commons where PM Theresa May due to trigger Article 50 thus formally beginning UK's departure from the European Union. Giving official notice under Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, it will be delivered to European Council president Donald Tusk later. In a statement in the Commons, the prime minister will then tell MPs this marks "the moment for the country to come together". It follows June's referendum which resulted in a vote to leave the EU.

The European Parliament's lead Brexit negotiator has told Sky News he doesn't appreciate Theresa May's apparent threat to weaken security commitments to the European Union if Britain is denied a trade deal.
Guy Verhofstadt told Sky's Adam Boulton her letter triggering Article 50 was largely constructive, but said it's wrong to use and abuse the security of citizens to secure a good ecomomic deal.

Christophe Debets from the German Team highlighted the advantages of Brexit. According to him, the UK has the upper hand in the negotiations.
Lesley Alexander from the English Team has been living in France for 20 years, so is worried about her fate, but as the same time excited to see to what the slogan "Take back control" will lead to.
For James O'Hagan, our expert for Northern Ireland, the people were lied to during the Brexit campaign. He also says politicians didn't really think about the problems that could arise in Northern Ireland now the UK is leaving the EU.
And last but not least, Joao Duarte Ferreira from the Portuguese Team, who is living and working in London, noticed a change among the European community on the island.
Many feel unwanted and hurt and fear for their future.
Lena Roche hosts, and tried to referee the energetic discussion.
The one thing everyone agrees on is that the path that will lead the UK towards Brexit is very foggy, with lots of unanswered questions.
