Art theft is usually for the purpose of resale or for ransom (sometimes called artnapping). Stolen art is sometimes used by criminals as collateral to secure loans. Only a small percentage of stolen art is recovered—estimates range from 5 to 10%. This means that little is known about the scope and characteristics of art theft.
Many thieves are motivated by the fact that valuable art pieces are worth millions of dollars and weigh only a few kilograms at most. Transport for items such as paintings is also trivial, assuming the thief is willing to inflict some damage to the painting by cutting it off the frame and rolling it up into a tube carrier. Also, while most high-profile museums have extremely tight security, many places with multi-million art collections works have disproportionately poor security measures. That makes them susceptible to thefts that are slightly more complicated than a typical smash-and-grab, but offer a huge potential payoff. Thieves sometimes target works based on their own familiarity with the artist, rather than the artist's reputation in the art world or the theoretical value of the work.
Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts – artworks, expressing the author's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. In their most general form these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.
The oldest form of art are visual arts, which include creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. Architecture is often included as one of the visual arts; however, like the decorative arts, it involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of use are essential—in a way that they usually are not in a painting, for example. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of art or the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
This is a list of existing major film festivals, sorted by continent.
WATCH UPDATE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUDdVxHUMOc Hey, I'm making this video to show a DevianTART I found that steals art. I apologize for the utter shit of this video, but I only have so much tools I can work with. Because I'm cheap. Also the pauses and "uh"s, I'm trying to English. So anyway, this user, Zexionnightray, has ignored me and refuses to take stolen work down, as he hides my comments like nothing happened. So here's a shout out, friend. It just kind of ticks me off that people think they can get away with this, and I don't want them to think what they're doing is okay. User in question: http://zexionnightray.deviantart.com/ Please don't be too rude, like, com'on.

"What is it about art theft we can't resist?" is just one question posed by host and art critic Alastair Sooke in this BBC documentary about some of the most notable high-stakes art robberies on record. Sooke strives to learn more about those who commit art theft, their motivations, and how it is that so few pieces are ever returned to their rightful owners. Though several cases are discussed, the most focus is placed on a robbery from Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum over twenty-five years ago. Known as the biggest art crime in history, the theft was carried out by two men posing as police officers. They managed to steal thirteen pieces total, from invaluable masterworks to a dubious piece of ornamentation. To this day no one has ever been caught, nor have any of the stolen works...

This is getting out of hand... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey guys, long time no see. I've been meaning to address this issue for quite sometime. On a more serious note..Contrary to the acting and playing up the jokes in this video, I really mean it when I say it's an emotional topic for me. Which is why I'd rather you guys laugh and find entertainment in me talking about than to feel sorry for me. I'm going to get personal here: Having your art stolen is probably one of the worse things that can happen to you as an artist. In my case, as much as I try to move on, I find myself still dealing with the consequences of their action every time my character is misnamed/misrepresented. As much as I want to take it down, it'd be...

A short documentary about the extensive art theft that has taken place in North Cyprus since the 1974 Turkish invasion. The theft has taken place with tacit or active approval from the Turkish army. The plunder not only served as a source of income for criminals in North Cyprus and shady antiquity dealers, it was also an act to eradicate the memory of Cyprus as a Christian country for almost two millenia. What has happened in the Turkish occupied zone constitutes pillaging of world cultural heritage and is a war crime according to several international conventions.
It's the greatest little-known art theft of all time. With the most unlikely thief. And no one knows why he really did it. Until now. More than 100 years after the theft of the Mona Lisa, writer/director Joe Medeiros finds the real reason Vincenzo Peruggia stole the masterpiece from the Louvre -- a reason Peruggia's only daughter didn't even know.
We were tasked with creating a 60-second master shot that remained interesting. Curran mentioned an art theft, so I shamelessly stole the idea! Thanks Curran! Anyway, this was shot on a Canon 5D with a 17-35mm (only used 35mm). We also used 16' of dolly track with my friend Nick on dolly grip, with me acting as camera operator. All in all I'm pretty proud of this shoot.

A Catalogue about Conspiracy, Theft, Possession and Heritage. Art Handling in Oblivion assembles five art collections that have been stolen during wartime, either by regimes or organised individuals. Seizure of art is one of most hidden and underestimated objectives of war. Behind conquering campaigns lurk hidden stories of deprived cultural heritage and devastation of the enemy’s cultural identity. Bringing home treasures of the enemy is first of all a tangible proof of strength and victory. The booty entails an enrichment of the very own culture and shifts the composition and reclassification of cultural heritage on a global scale. Most of the discussed collections have been found and restituted, others are still in hostile possession or missing. This catalogue does not pursue to answer...

We rot the voodoo, for we do not fear
Spirit of power like mighty strong tower
As its lurking near
We block the voodoo, from great beyond
Phantom of darkness can't reach through this fortress
As we sing our song
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh oh ohh
We're death defying, so electrifying
We're rocking sound in our mind
We fought the voodoo, send shiver down spine
This devils deceiving while he's commandeering
The lights in the night sky
We rot your witchcraft, ya can't cast no spell
You will retire when we return fire
Gainst voodoo you thought worked so well
