Stephen Khan is The Conversation’s Editor in the UK. He was a news editor at The Guardian and previously Deputy Foreign Editor of The Independent, Scotland Editor of The Observer and also worked for The Sunday Herald in Scotland.

Before joining The Conversation as Executive Editor, Matt Warren was a magazine editor and features executive on The Daily Mail.

Annabel joins The Conversation from a background in broadcast journalism. She was previously a radio news show producer at digital station Monocle 24 covering a wide array of international issues.

Holly joins The Conversation from a background in broadcast journalism and magazine publishing. She spent three years working as a reporter and editor on a number of business publications focusing on housing, the environment and health. Before this, she worked for the BBC as a journalist and researcher. She is based in York.

Laura worked for more than five years as a reporter and news editor for Research Fortnight, a specialist publication focusing on science, technology and higher education policy. She also worked as a reporter for Research Europe, covering French higher education policy and European policy in areas including space and innovation.

Andrew comes from a social science background, and studied and worked in the US. Before joining The Conversation, he worked on projects spanning behavioural economics, ethnography for public policy, and commercial qualitative research.

Miriam worked for four years as a reporter and news editor of Research Fortnight, a specialist publication focusing on science, technology and higher education policy. She has previously written for publications including New Scientist, Nature and Physics World. She also has a background as a PhD student in atomic physics, specialising in laboratory astrophysics.

Steven Vass joined The Conversation in February 2014 after nearly 10 years at the Sunday Herald, first as media correspondent and then as deputy business editor, where he wrote about most aspects of business but particularly energy, the economy and the financial crisis. He previously spent several years as a VSO volunteer in Zambia and several more as a media analyst in London.

Stephen covers science, technology and health for The Conversation. He previously spent five years as senior reporter and special projects editor at The Engineer, the world's oldest technology magazine and professional journal.

Paul has been a journalist for 16 years, working most recently as a news reporter for The Sun covering the north of England. Before that he worked as a multimedia journalist at The Press Association covering breaking news, court cases and major events. Paul began his career as a local newspaper reporter and crime correspondent and also works for the BBC. He is based in Manchester.

Clint has worked as a freelance journalist for the past 15 years. He has covered health, science and technology for The Economist, Intelligent Life, Newsweek, New Scientist, The Guardian and The Independent. He also wrote a book about his year as a clinical trial "guinea pig" for the male pill called Die Pille und Ich (Rowohlt). Clint holds an MSc in creative non-fiction writing from Imperial College London.

Previously Caroline was editor of the Financial Mail in South Africa. Prior to that she worked for the Financial Times in London and Brussels in various roles over 17 years including as World Desk Editor and as a foreign correspondent covering European Union agriculture and social policy.

Candice worked as an investigative journalist at the Johannesburg-based civil society organisation Corruption Watch. She has also been a reporter in the newsrooms of several weekly and daily national newspapers, most recently the Sunday Independent and Johannesburg Star newspaper.

Natasha worked as news editor of City Press for three years before joining The Conversation Africa. She has freelanced for a range of publications, including Al Jazeera English, The Atlantic and The Big Issue. After obtaining her Bachelor of Journalism at Rhodes University in 2003, she worked for the Cape Times as a general reporter before joining the Cape Argus as news editor in 2009. She is a contributing editor to the Index on Censorship.

Thabo is a journalist and editor with 23 years’ experience in newspapers. He is the former editor of the Pretoria News, Sowetan, Sunday World and Business Times. His main areas of interest are human rights, education, politics, labour, transport and small business development. He is a past winner of the Sanlam Business Journalist of the Year Award (small business section). He was a 2008/2009 Nieman Fellow (Harvard University).

Sibonelo has been a journalist for about 20 years with a focus on business and economic areas. He has worked for national titles in South Africa such as the Business Day, Financial Mail and The New Age. Prior to joining The Conversation Africa, he worked for the National Empowerment Fund, a South African development finance institution.

Lindiwe is a student at the University of the Witwatersrand studying towards an Masters degree in Sociology. She previously completed a Masters in Development Studies at the University of Granada in Spain. Prior to that she completed her undergraduate degree in literature and theatre, and an honour degree in African Studies at the University of Cape Town. She has worked as a workshop facilitator, copy editor and project co-ordinator in civil society.

Shallan has over ten years’ experience in the media and corporate communications sectors. Most recently she worked as a senior sub editor at eNews Channel Africa. Prior to that she played integral roles specialising in internal communications at major firms such as Unilever, ABI and Altech. She has all round experience having worked on a range of media platforms including print, digital and broadcast.

Misha most recently worked as a researcher and producer on ABC TV’s Media Watch. Previously he was editor of Crikey and The Big Issue (Australia) and a reporter for The Age.

Liz is a Walkley award-winning journalist and author, with two decades of experience in newspapers, radio and online. Liz is now Executive Editor, a newly-created role that includes leading The Conversation’s national training program, which teaches pitching, writing and public engagement skills to academics and researchers; working with the senior editing team; and public presentations and outreach for member organisations. She joined The Conversation in 2012 as its first Queensland Editor.

Suzy is a former features editor, news editor and arts editor at The Age, where she wrote a regular oped column for many years. She has taught journalism at the University of Melbourne, freelanced in New York and contributed to academic journals such as Meanjin.

Before joining The Conversation, Sunanda Creagh worked as a political and general news correspondent in the Reuters Jakarta bureau. Prior to that, she was a reporter at The Sydney Morning Herald, where she covered politics, urban affairs, arts, features and sport.

Before starting at The Conversation Jenni worked on the Mindframe national media initiative, helping journalists report on mental illness and suicide. She has also worked for a number of years in radio, online and television journalism for the ABC and for Reuters at the Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur bureaus.

John joined The Conversation in December 2013 as politics & society editor. After two years in that role, he took up the new position of cities & policy editor. John has worked in the news media since he decided in the mid-1980s that a life tracking elephants (in the process of gaining an honours degree in ecology) was less interesting than being a journalist in apartheid-era South Africa. His residence was soon revoked and he returned to Australia. He joined The Conversation after nearly two decades with The Age as an editor, writer and columnist.

James joined The Conversation after graduating from University of Melbourne. He has been sub-editor, feature writer and wildlife columnist for Farrago, and has presented on SYN community radio.

Alexandra has worked in various media and journalism roles in Melbourne, London, and Jakarta. Prior to joining The Conversation she worked at Foreign Policy Think Tank, the Australia India Institute at The University of Melbourne.

Sarah joined The Conversation in October 2016. She previously worked as a freelance science writer and editor, in science communication and as an immunology researcher in Australia and Indonesia. She has a PhD and a Graduate Diploma in Sciences Communication.

Prior to joining The Conversation, Amanda was a reporter and editor with The Age for 16 years, covering health, education, social policy, pop culture and the arts. She was also news and features editor for The Sunday Age, which included overseeing the paper's coverage of the 2007 federal election.

Claire is former deputy editor of The Guardian's Higher Education Network. She was runner up for outstanding higher education journalism in 2014 and shortlisted for journalist of the year in the Mind media awards 2014 for her coverage around mental health in universities. She previously freelanced for CNN and the Times Educational supplement.

Tim has been a science and technology writer and editor for over 15 years. His work has appeared in print and online in numerous outlets around the world, and he has been the editor of Cosmos, Australian Life Scientist and PC & Tech Authority magazines. He also holds a doctorate in philosophy.

Debbie Dickinson joins The Conversation having run national and international digital media campaigns, including for the Australian Government on the carbon price, and for the UK Government's UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen. She previously worked as a strategic policy advisor at London's Sustainable Development Commission, and at the Amsterdam-based non-profit, the Global Reporting Initiative.

Emil has a background in documentary post-production and has credits on documentaries for the ABC, SBS, and BBC, amongst others. He has completed a Graduate Diploma of Journalism at La Trobe University, where he co-edited its online magazine, and after a brief stint at Business Spectator, he joins The Conversation as the Multimedia Editor.

Reema Rattan is currently on a six-month secondment to The Conversation Global, where her focus is on North and South-East Asia, and the Pacific. She joined The Conversation before the launch of the Australian site in 2011 and helped the company set up. She was Health + Medicine editor for four years before becoming the Series + Specials editor. Reema has worked in the research sector in Sydney and Melbourne, and was previously sub-editor at The Korea Times and the International Herald Tribune's local supplement in Seoul.

Fabrice Rousselot started his career as a foreign correspondent for French national newspaper, Libération. He was US bureau chief and UK bureau chief for the daily and spent many years in the field. He then lead Liberation's website before becoming the editor in chief of the newspaper. He left Libération in 2014, and embarked on an adventure with The Conversation, contributing to the launch of The Conversation France in 2015. Fabrice has collaborated with many international magazines and media outlets. He has published one novel and two non fiction books about Pakistan and French politics.

Clea Chakraverty joined The Conversation Global in September 2016. Previously, she worked as a freelance journalist in India for Indian and French media including the Indian Quarterly, Le Monde Diplomatique and Les Echos. Her interests cover education, social change, gender issues, religion, identity and globalisation. In 2013, she was awarded the French Lagardère prize for a project on Indian women. She studied anthropology at Paris Descartes with a focus on the Himalayas.

Jennifer Weeks spent the past decade as a freelance journalist covering environment, science and health for magazines and web sites. She also has worked as a Congressional aide, lobbyist, and policy analyst in Washington, DC and Boston.

Jeff has two decades of experience working for news organizations in Antarctica, New Zealand, Vermont, Missouri, Maine and Massachusetts. He has covered many topics in science and technology, and beyond. He has a BA in history from Middlebury College and an MA in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Lynne Anderson has been a medical and healthcare writer and editor for more than a dozen years. Lynne covered consumer health at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where she also was a bureau chief and editor. She served as director of communications at Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute and also at the University of Kentucky's Kentucky Cancer Program. She has a master's degree in science, health and environmental reporting from Columbia University.

Kalpana has worked as an editor, writer and researcher at Harvard University. A 2009 Nieman Fellow at Harvard, she pursued many social justice issues as a journalist at The Times of India. Her case study on modern-day slavery is part of a Harvard course, and her book on the AIDS epidemic in India, is taught at many Indian universities.

Before joining The Conversation, Danielle was a communications specialist for the Southern Regional Education Board. She has written for the Miami Herald, The Alexandria Times and other publications. She holds a BA in psychology from Emory University, where she was a 2013 Community Building and Social Change Fellow.

Aviva Hope Rutkin was previously a reporter and editor at New Scientist. Her stories have also appeared in BBC Future, MIT Technology Review, Metro, Salon, Mashable, and on podcasts and radio. She studied neuroscience at Union College and science writing at MIT.

Joel ran social media strategy and launched vertical sites on Catholicism and technology for The Boston Globe. He has also worked in product management and editorial positions at The Christian Science Monitor, Lycos, and CNN International.

Max helped to found The Conversation in the UK. He has a strong track record in business and internet innovation, having spent the last few years founding and running Paperstone, a leading office supplies website. Professor Dame Anne Glover is Vice Principal for External Affairs and Dean for Europe at the University of Aberdeen. Her research background is in molecular biology and she served as Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission from 2012 to 2015.

Nick Lieven is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Aircraft Dynamics at the University of Bristol where he also served as Dean of Engineering.

Professor Brock was Head of Journalism at City University London in 2009-14 and is now a part-time professor. Prior to this, he had a long and successful career with The Times. He is a member of the executive board of the International Press Institute, chairs the IPI's British committee, and is ex-president of the World Editors Forum.

David Hogg is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation and Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Leeds University and is responsible for developing the University’s research and innovation agenda. He is Co-Director of the N8 High Performance Computing Facility, Chair of the WUN Global Challenge on Responding to Climate Change, a director of Medilink, and a member of the EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team for ICT.

David Price is Vice-Provost (Research) at UCL and Professor of Mineral Physics. He is chair of the REF2014 sub-Panel for Earth and Environmental Sciences; Chair of Governors of the UCL Academy School; a Council Member of the STFC; and a non-executive Director of the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust.

Mark Taylor is the Dean of Warwick Business School. He has outstanding credentials both in academia and in business. Mark was previously Managing Director at BlackRock and Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund. He is also one of the most highly cited researchers in the world.

Professor Andrew Atherton is Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University and a Professor of Entrepreneurship. He has published extensively on entrepreneurship and in particular business start-up and government enterprise policy, and has advised and worked with policymakers and practitioners in the UK and internationally. A Mandarin Chinese speaker, Andrew has worked on and researched entrepreneurship in China since the mid 1990s.

Professor Saul Tendler is Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at the University of York. An academic pharmacist, his research is directed towards biophysical investigation of bio-molecular systems and their interactions, primarily utilising atomic force microscopy. At York he is responsible for planning, partnerships and the international portfolio.

Kevin Hetherington has held a Chair in Geography at The Open University since January 2005. He is currently Dean and Director of Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences. He has published extensively with recent research focussing on a number of areas including museum studies, the material remains of the past within the present and its relevance to heritage issues, and consumption and disposal.

Robert Parkin is Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Transfer and Professor of Mechatronics at the University of Bradford. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and serves on the Innovate UK Manufuture advisory group

Paul Broster is Director of Journalism at the University of Salford. He has worked as a journalist across local, regional and national platforms for more than 20 years. As Director, he has responsibility for 400 students and an outstanding team of academics at the University's MediaCityUK campus.

A former NASA research scientist Paul has been Vice-Chancellor of City University London since 2010. Prior to this he was Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton. Sir Paul is Chair of the UCEA Board, Chair of the national Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration and President of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society. Sir Paul was Knighted in the 2016 New Year Honours for �?services to higher education'.

Alice Roberts is Professor of Public Engagement in Science at the University of Birmingham. She has combined teaching, research and public engagement in her academic career: as a clinical anatomist, physical anthropologist, television and radio broadcaster, author and science journalist.
