Sussex (/ˈsʌsᵻks/; abbreviated Sx), from the Old English Sūþsēaxe ('South Saxons'), is a historic county in South East England corresponding roughly in area to the ancient Kingdom of Sussex. Clockwise, it is bounded to the west by Hampshire; north by Surrey, north-east by Kent, south by the English Channel and is divided for local government into West Sussex and East Sussex and the city of Brighton and Hove. Brighton and Hove was created as a unitary authority in 1997, and was granted City status in 2000. Until then, Chichester had been Sussex's only city.
Sussex has three main geographic sub-regions, each oriented approximately east to west. In the south-west of the county lies the fertile and densely populated coastal plain. North of this lie the rolling chalk hills of the South Downs, beyond which lies the well-wooded Sussex Weald.
The name 'Sussex' derives from the Kingdom of Sussex, according to legend it was founded by Ælle of Sussex in 477 AD, then in 825 it was absorbed into the kingdom of Wessex and the later kingdom of England. The region's roots go back further to the location of some of Europe's earliest hominid finds at Boxgrove. Sussex has been a key location for England's major invasions, including the Roman invasion of Britain and the Battle of Hastings.
East Sussex /ˈsʌsᵻks/ is a county in South East England. It is bordered by the counties of Kent to the north and east, Surrey to the north west and West Sussex to the west, and to the south by the English Channel.
East Sussex is part of the historic county of Sussex, which has its roots in the ancient kingdom of the South Saxons, who established themselves there in the 5th century AD, after the departure of the Romans. Archaeological remains are plentiful, especially in the upland areas. The area's position on the coast has also meant that there were many invaders, including the Romans and later the Normans. Earlier industries have included fishing, iron-making, and the wool trade, all of which have declined, or been lost completely.
Sussex is traditionally divided into six sub-divisions known as rapes. From the 12th century the three eastern rapes and the three western rapes each had separate quarter sessions, with the county town of the three eastern rapes being Lewes. This situation was formalised by Parliament in 1865, and the two parts were made into administrative counties, each with distinct elected county councils in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888. In East Sussex there were also three self-administered county boroughs: Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings.
West Sussex is a county in the south of England, bordering East Sussex (with Brighton and Hove) to the east, Hampshire to the west and Surrey to the north, and to the south the English Channel. Chichester in the southwest is the county town and only city in West Sussex, with the largest towns being Crawley, Worthing and Horsham.
West Sussex has a range of scenery, including wealden, downland and coastal. The highest point of the county is Blackdown, at 280 metres (919 ft). It has a number of stately homes including Goodwood, Petworth House and Uppark and also castles such as Arundel Castle and Bramber Castle. Over half the county is protected countryside, offering walking, cycling and other recreational opportunities.
Although the name Sussex, derived from the Old English 'Sūþsēaxe' ('South Saxons'), is from the Saxon period between AD 477 to 1066, the history of human habitation in Sussex goes back to the Old Stone Age. The oldest hominin remains known in Britain were found at Eartham Pit, Boxgrove. Sussex has been occupied since those times and has succumbed to various invasions and migrations throughout its long history.
England i/ˈɪŋɡlənd/ is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. The Irish Sea lies northwest of England and the Celtic Sea lies to the southwest. England is separated from continental Europe by the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south. The country covers much of the central and southern part of the island of Great Britain, which lies in the North Atlantic; and includes over 100 smaller islands such as the Isles of Scilly, and the Isle of Wight.
The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law – the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world – developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation.
Live in the U.K. is the first live album released by the band Helloween. It was released in some countries as Keepers Live. In the United States, it was released as I Want Out – Live without the track "Rise and Fall", and with a shorter edit of the introduction. The album was recorded in Edinburgh, Scotland and Manchester, England in November, 1988. This is Helloween's only official live album with Michael Kiske on vocals. This is also the last album made with Kai Hansen.
For the first time, the "o" in the "Helloween" logo was not represented by a pumpkin. On I Want Out - Live, it was represented by a globe showing portions of Western Europe, Central Europe, and the British Isles.

During its history its association with the sea has included providing ships for the service of the King in time of war, and being involved with smuggling gangs of the 18th and 19th centuries such as the notorious Hawkhurst ...

For Americans going to England, they usually are concerned with driving on the left side of the road. But that is only part of the adventure. The secondary roads are very narrow and curves are everywhere. But the biggest challenge are the hedges on the sides of the road and the speed the English like to drive. This video shows what it's like to drive the roads, including going through towns where people park half on the sidewalk and half on the road so there is only one and half lanes. Car was a SUV Volvo XC60. If you are thinking about driving in England (in this case East Sussex and Kent), this will give you an idea of what you will find.

Take a tour of Beachy Head in England -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. In the English East Sussex county, lies a tranquil chalk headland, the Beachy Head. The chalk formation started accumulating more than 65 million years ago, around the period known as Late Cretaceous. Lying in the vicinity of the Seven Sisters chalks cliffs, this serene place is simply entrancing with gorgeous views of the sea, the sky, and the land. There are two lighthouses built on the surroundings of this headland, because it posed a significant threat to ships. Due to the continuous erosion of the cliffs, the Belle Tout lighthouse had to be shifted 17 meters inland. The university did not ask me to make this, I created it solely for entertainment purposes. All footage was shot on my drone by myself and my good friend/flatmate, Nick Howell. Then edited by me. No filters, gradings or presets were used during filming or editing. All of it is raw footage straight from the Phantom, taken at sunset. And though the beauty of my campus grounds, South Downs National Park and Brighton under the sun can't quite be captured or justified through a lens, I hope this was a good effort anyway. The film features fast-talking veteran tout of 35 years, Slim, who hopes to make a killing during the Rugby World Cup, former slick ad man-turned-tobacco smuggler Mark as he runs the gauntlet of Dover's customs officers, market trader Eric, busted for selling fake football shirts not long ago and put on tag, and partner Mary, purveyors of Smell-a-Like perfumes. On the other side of the chase, we ride along with ex-cop Graham, who run...

I worked at Hastings College of Arts and Tech or 15 years and spent the last few years helping to teach special needs children, so I had plenty of time to access the library and to sit in my spare time doing research, writing and compiling the script for these two works was very interesting indeed. I also made two video history films the run time of each was about 45 to 60 minutes one on Hastings and one on St.Leonards which I shall put up on you Tube in due course, I hope you enjoy this but please excuse the microphone popping as my equipment then was not as modern as what I have now so rather than re work it I decided to put the original recording out. Yours Mike Wells.

A fantastic find, back in the 1960's, when a JCB driver unearthed a few random "rocks" when clearing some farmland, which, when investigated further, with the help of archaeologists, turned out to be the biggest discovery of a well preserved Roman Palace (or Villa) in the U.K. A fascinating example of Roman occupation in England many centuries ago, in AD75. Well worth a visit for all ages. There's an excellent cafe tea room there, too!
