The geography of Tweets

Give every Twitter user a brush and they will paint you the world — if they geotag their Tweets.

Those of us on the Visual Insights team are obsessed with the patterns that emerge from aggregated Tweets over time. A continuing curiosity is about the geographical shapes that surface in geotagged Tweets. The images we’re sharing here use all of the geo-tagged Tweets since 2009 — billions of them. (Every dot is a Tweet, and the color is the Tweet count.)

Getting started with login verification

Brewing our first IPA patent, and new adopters

Last year, we introduced a new way of handling patents called the Innovator’s Patent Agreement. The IPA is a new way to do patent assignment that keeps control in the hands of engineers and designers. We put the draft agreement up on Github and over the past year, we’ve received a lot of great comments and feedback.

#OnlyOnTwitter: Fêtes and fashion

Other-worldly hats, sky-high heels, daring designs and strapping tuxedos: We’re seeing them all come to life on Twitter as partygoers and scenemakers strut their stuff at the hautest of events of the year so far.

Just in the past week, the Kentucky Derby, Met Costume Institute Gala, San Francisco Ballet and Chanel have lit up Twitter as celebrities tweeted and vined their chic, punk, classic or otherwise memorable garb.
