Note that sites like LibGen and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a very large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request
  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot handle full book scans
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN ISSN, PMID, etc.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived

Fulfilling a request[edit]

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
  • You can point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... ). You can share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal, or by emailing the content to the requester.
  • You can email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.

@Antemister: Some movement on this. I located print/microform versions via WorldCat. See here. If any volunteers work, study, or live near the University of Chicago, the University of Wisconsin, or the University of Hawaii at Manoa, you potentially have access to a copy. I can access the Chicago copy when it's returned (currently checked out), but I'm not a student there, so I'm unable to recall it or place a hold for when it's returned. ~ Rob13Talk 15:16, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
OK, I didn't mention here that I already had a look into that microfilm copy in german library. The reason why I asked here is the fact that that microfilm was incomplete (some pages at the end were missing and other hardly readable). I don't really know; since it's something I have zero-knowledge on, I was thinking just a few pages covering relevant periods- early years, major works, later years. Something like that. @Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: This book appears to be exceedingly rare. See WorldCat. The only two copies in the United States are in a university in New York (where it's part of a special collection - unlikely to be eligible for interlibrary loan) and a research institute in Los Angeles (unlikely to engage in interlibrary loan at all). I happen to be likely to travel close to one of those areas in the somewhat near future, so I'll see what I can do. This one will likely take a while, though. @Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: Its definitely a reliable source. The reason it's so rare is that it was produced only to accompany one specific exhibition as a sort of extended program in a sense, from what I can tell. When the exhibition was finished, most copies were probably lost or destroyed. It doesn't appear it was ever publicly made available, so libraries didn't have a chance to grab it unless donated (as in the case of Binghamton). Certainly an interesting history attached to this item. ~ Rob13Talk 01:32, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

The Literature of the Fox: A Reference and Critical Guide to Anglo-Jewish Writing[edit]

Hi. This is a bit of a long shot. I recently brought our entry on Lazarus Aaronson to featured article status. Now, however, a book has been published which I believe contains a lot of new information on him. The book, titled The Literature of the Fox: A Reference and Critical Guide to Anglo-Jewish Writing, is written by William Baker and Jeanette Roberts Shumaker. It is available on Amazon.

This may be easier if it was done via a physical checking out and scanning rather than requesting pages to be scanned since I have no idea the specific page numbers. It's an encyclopedia-style volume. There is no encyclopedia entry for Nani Alapai. From the index, this is the list of articles in which she's mentioned:

Typically she's mentioned in connection with a song she sang or someone she sang with. Machado's style is described as "reminiscent of Nani Alapai". The closest thing to an entry of her own is two sentences in the appendix (p. 417):

ALAPAI, NANI. One of the most popular female vocalists during the late 19th century. The first female singer for the Royal Hawaiian Band (1873-1912); recorded with William Ellis (1904-1905) on Victor.

If Wikipedia is correct, and she was born in December 1874, then obviously she wasn't singing for the band from 1873. The band had a long history and went through a couple name changes. Could the parenthetical years be referring to the era/incarnation of the band with which she sang? The one page she's mentioned on in Royal Hawaiian Band (p. 340) only muddies the waters:

During this period the band also featured female vocalists ... The first was the celebrated Nani Alapai, who made her debut in 1873 and continued til 1914 ...

1873 is again a physical impossibility, and the end date doesn't match the appendix.

There is no encyclopedia entry for Clark, nor is there an index entry for Henry N. Clark. There are index entries for Harry Clark and Henry K. Clark (6 pages total). Does this help you identify what you need? --Worldbruce (talk) 03:22, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

@Worldbruce: Thank you so much. I wrote the article on Nani Alapai. The date problem is precisely why I wanted to find out more info about her. Literally an anonymous IP editor stated she was not the first vocalist and that she did not join in the 1870s and cited the encyclopedia on the talk page of the article. I wanted to give that person the benefit of the doubt and check the sources myself and possibly find something else that might be a new lead since Kanahele is a reputable Hawaiian historian. I have been following the trail for the 1873 claim and it seems to rooted in an interview by her adopted grandson and the music magazine he helped published in the 1970s. I still want to believe that there may be something in the new 2012 edition that may be different from you have found since usually new edition update upon older misinformation . Would anyone mind checking Illinois newspapers for articles about Hillside School District 93? (in other words the "School District 93" in Hillside, Illinois?) - I'm trying to find information (particularly articles about non-routine events from say the Chicago Sun-Times or the Chicago Tribune) to bolster the article's notability on the Spanish Wikipedia.

Do you guys have access to academic article databases? The user who I am talking to feels the information in the Chicago Tribune does not confer enough notability. While I disagree with that, I feel that I need to have additional sources related to this district. Do any academic articles or PhD theses talk about this district? I tried looking at the University of Illinois and Illinois State University libraries but couldn't get access to their databases to find specific articles. If you find any, I would really appreciate it!

@BU Rob13: Eswiki has the similar GNG policy text, but some users argue that the information on construction of the school and the bond failure in the 1970s is too routine and not encyclopedia-worthy. I wonder if there is an angle with the 1970s mental health program set up in conjunction with Northern Illinois University. This may be difficult since I don't know the exact page numbers, so it would require flipping through a physical copy of the book. The book is "Die Marquesaner und ihre Kunst, Band III"; seen here. The first and second volumes are online but the third is not. The cover should look like this. The pages I would need access to would be the ones about commons:Category:Opferkopf Manuiotaa and the accompany descriptions and images associated with it; "Manuiotaa" and "Puamau" would be the key search terms to look for in the index or in image captions.

I just got some additional clues. A photo of MANUIOTAA appears on p. 121 of this pdf and, in better resolution, in a comparison of the two heads MANUIOTAA and TIU-OO. A Google search for that exact title (surrounded in double quotes, and regular Google not Google Scholar) returns a pdf file of it and the other papers in the same journal issue as one of the top hits. Carol Channing interview in the Orlando Sentinel[edit]

I think this is available on newspapers.com, the Orlando Sentinel for November 24, 1978 and an interview with Carol Channing entitled "'Oh, oh, oh, fellas; look at the old girl now, fellas". I want to check the accuracy of this statement "She recalls that playwright Thornton Wilder loved the play so much that he came once a week, and later wrote The Matchmaker, a play based on it." in the article on Channing. The Matchmaker is earlier than Hello Dolly! not the other way round as this statement suggests so I want to see if it's the interview is Channing gets her memories wrong or our interpretation. Conference paper from ASME Energy Technology Conference, Diesel and Gas Engine Power Division[edit]

This would be used in the creation of the article M-K TE70-4S, concerning a diesel locomotive. This is a conference paper, probably about 12 pages in length. The ASME id is 78-DGP-15. I believe it is available in conference proceedings titled "[Papers] contributed by the Diesel & Gas Engine Power Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for presentation at the Energy Technology Conference & Exhibition, Houston, Texas, November 5-9, 1978." The publishing body is the "American Society of Mechanical Engineers., Diesel and Gas Engine Power Division." I have been unable to obtain these proceedings via Inter-Library Loan at my local library. Any library with significant holdings of ASME proceedings from this period may have what I'm looking for. ASME digitization only goes back to 1988, with some limited exceptions.

There's a similar-sounding set of proceedings for this conference for the "Petroleum Division" which do not contain this paper. Google Scholar turns up a citation to Mechanical Engineering, vol. 101, January 1979, page 87. This is merely the digest listing of the paper, which I've already consulted. The only library which I know for sure holds these proceedings is National Research Council (Canada): [4], but I expect there are others. I realize this is a hard ask, but I think I've gotten about as far as I can with my own resources, and the article (probably) can't be written without this paper.

I've had this happen a couple of times before; I recall years ago using a textbook on medieval coins for multiple articles, and eventually Google started shutting down the pages I could see. Presumably there was some limit based on my IP's view count. I just VPNed to my work PC and tried it from there, on both Chrome and IE, and I'm now getting "You have either reached a page that is unavailable for viewing or reached your viewing limit for this book". WhisperToMe, I was guessing at the most likely typo. The original editor may have gotten the 1964 date from the school's own history page - or the school may have gotten it from Wikipedia.

The only pre-Revolutionary, English-language newspapers in Teheran I've found on Worldcat are The Teheran Journal and Kaysan International (which may have been a magazine). It's entirely possible that there were others, and one may have been called The Tehran Times, or the school may be translating the title and quote from a paper in Persian or another language.
